Am I missing something? Omar Minaya is not a bad GM...

He's made some really good trades/signings. He's also made a couple of bad ones, but nobody is perfect.

He has definitely improved the team in the 4 years he has been there

He's certainly not bad and has improved the team.

But when you have a 115m payroll and miss the playoffs, and then a 138m payroll and very close to not making the playoffs again...you're not exactly good, either.

He missed the playoffs by one game. You can't fault him for that. He did everything he had to do to get that team into the postseason, they just choked. He has no control over that, so you can't blame him.

You also can't say a guy is "not a good GM" because he is very close to not making the playoffs, either. Look at Theo Epstein. His team is close to not making the playoffs with one of the highest payrolls in baseball. Does that make him "not a good GM"? Of course not, he is still one of the best in the business.

I think Minaya is in the same sort of situation. The GMs do not play the games. They can only control so much.

The main thing is, Omar Minaya's Mets teams have always been very competitive and in a position to make a run at a title.

boston is not close to not making the playoffs....?

his teams have been built on over-priced, over-the hill veterans. They lack depth and a good (so overrated) farm system. With the resources they have, they should be a lot better.

What I meant by that is they are both the Wild Card leader.

Actually...he does. He's done nothing to improve his bullpen (his team's actual problem).
