I'll say it again, its a FOOTBALL TOWN!!!. nobody outside of the season ticket holders really give a crap about this team, except buying tix to the playoffs or WS to "say they were there"....there is little passion here for baseball....oh i forgot our TV ratings are high, big deal....means nothing....

 

we have one radio station 560, that is football 24/7 now, basically.....

 

and when we had dontrelle, Cabrera and Delgado and all the others we traded away, we still drew crap.......

The Marlins marketing has been pretty bad, IMO. Now, I don't know what kind of budget they have, but there are some things that I can definitely say they have underperformed in. One is the website. Have you been to the Marlins' website? It's a sprawling mess with a soup of colors from silver to orange to black to teal to white. That is unattractive. Go look at the websites of the Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins. Those people know how to cater to an evolving fan base, namely an online one. The articles are good, Joe Fisaro is a knowledgeable person, so I give him the quality tag. But just like winning isn't the only ingredient to a successful franchise, good articles aren't the only pieces of a good website. I can write great literature and slap it on Blogspot, but if I basically use the default layout that Blogspot gives me, I'm not gonna get a lot of readers.

 

The second thing is the colors. They are pretty cliche (white with thin pin stripes?). And I know that they integrated orange into the mix, but my goodness, do these people have any artistic sense? You've gotta build identity, and having a million different colors isn't the way to go. Teal was a great color, it's an identity-builder because no other team in MLB used it. You saw teal, you saw the Marlins. Also, change up the logo for once. It's grown stale. You live in a fashion town, give the people fashionable items.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but not many people really care about the "u".

 

Miami got a crowd of 35,000 last week vs UNC, in a 76,000 seat staidum. They couldn't even sellout vs FSU this week, when almost half of the crowd was cheering for the Noles.

 

Miami has the worst basketball attendance in the ACC. And to make it worse, every other team in the ACC has an average attendance higher than Miami's arena's capacty.

 

Miami also doesn't even sellout their 3,000 seat baseball stadium. They get a crowd of just over 1,000 for some games, which is terrible.

 

Trust me, I have season tickets for football and basketball, and go to many baseball games.

having never been to the OB, I can't say really but I am guessing the canes aren't drawing because the poor Miami fans can't drive an extra, what, 20 min or so from the where the OB was to Dolphin Stadium!!??

 

remember that would be on a Saturday, it ain't a weekday nite during rush hour to drive from north broward to the OB site like I will be doing when the new place opens, excuses, excuses....the only thing that concerns me is the parking situation....

 

the Panthers draw pretty well I think at the BAC and if they ever get a good team (i doubt in my lifetime LOL) they will sell the place out.....

 

as for the AAA, i went to the 2nd game ever there and it was at least 30% empty after selling out game 1....i could have invited 500 of my closest friends and had a party where I was sitting.....tix weren't selling before Shaq and if Wade (god forbid) ever leaves.....you'll be watching the tumbleweeds roll across the court....

 

I hope to heck that the fans "will come" when the new place is built, but those of us that complain about the parking and ticket prices NOW are not going to like it at the new place.....what do we charge now 10.00 for parking.....I paid 40 two weeks ago at Yankee Stadium....count your blessings

Considering the Dolphins were coming off an impressive road win against the Patriots, and a good Charger team was coming to town...that, too, was inexcusable.

The stadium seats 75K. The NFL considers 67K a sell out. The Dolphins consistently get a 24 hour extension on the sell out deadline so they can televise the home games. And then have a hard time selling the 67K, usually resulting in the media buying the remaining tickets just so they can show the game. Do you not see all those empty seats at the stadium on Sundays? Did you not see all those empty seats at the UM game Saturday vs an in state rival? Heck, wasn't all that long ago a playoff game was blacked out. I wouldn't call anyone that thinks this is a football town dumb. They just don't know what a football town is. Let's see how this "football town" responds when such heavy weights as the Seahawks, Raiders, and 49ers come to town this year.

 

Football towns are places where rights to season tickets are in wills and fought out in divorce courts. Places where they have sold out games for years, even in the bad times. Places where the waiting list to buy season tickets is years long. Green Bay and Denver are football towns. Miami dosen't make the list.

If it's any consolation, I've turned about 300 Japanese children into Marlins fans. Well, not so much fans, but they are aware of them now! They really like Billy and think Hanley is cool. So, if 300 kids from a small village in Japan ever transplant to South Florida, there's some attendance right there!

Dude, you are totally right. Miami is a difficult place for sports as entertainment venues. The question is why. My dad always tells me that it's because people would prefer to go to the beach. It's A LOT cheaper than attending a game. In most other cities (namely the football towns such as Green Bay), the beach isn't really an option. There's not much else to do except go to a sporting event. I always counter-argue with him "Won't people get tired of going to the beach?" And the answer is probably yeah, but for every time they go to a sporting event the average person here goes to the beach 3 or 4 times. When they're paying for that $6 hot dog they remember how much they love the beach.

First off, if I've said anything to offend you please let me know. I just don't understand the reason for the sarcastic tone you've assumed in your reply to my post.

 

Second, these are my opinions and are far from legitimacy. These are extremely generalized ideas. I like to present solutions to problems rather than bicker about the problem itself or shoot down others attempts at solutions without presenting a solution myself. So if you have any ideas I'd like to read them. I'm very interested in this topic.
