The organization has to have credibility, which the Marlins do not, given their history of breaking up teams, and though they may have a 'plan' right now, the fruits of it need come about before people feel safe trusting this organization (and even then, the people will still hesitate with good reason). No matter what valid points and fine rhetoric we spew out here on this message board, the reality is that the market the Marlins are dealing with needs familiar faces in order to feel a connection, and those faces become the image of the franchise in the minds of the people. The community interaction by the Marlins with South Fla is next to nil, especially now that it is the off-season. Most of the players split from So Fla, the minute the season is over and don't return until opening day. Consequently you have no interaction in the off-season that helps to build that bond between team, players and community. Also, when was the last time the Marlins held any kind of an event in South Miami-Dade county ? Like in the Pinecrest, Perrine, Deering or Cutler Bay areas ? There are plenty of people of wealth in that area (Mike Lowell has a multimillion $ home in Pinecrest) who are a potential source of fanbase, but yet the team has ignored them for 16 years. Yet holds community events in Boca Raton, which is farther in the opposite direction. That is just plain stupid marketing. :banghead Pinecrest is about 35 miles from Dolphin Stadium, and Boca is about 50 miles.....what makes more sense ? Both would, but for whatever reason, the Marlins have ignored a good chunk of South Fla, yet b*tch and moan about low attendance. WELL GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER IN THE PROMOTIONS DEPT ! :banghead That's pretty funny, and very incorrect. Because being a PBC resident I have always complained the team spends more time wooing the Dade residents, with only 2 or 3 visits to our county per year, with the exception of having ST here. But I guess that is too many for some people from Dade County to accept. Especially having ST here. I wasn't aware of any team that has it's players stay in their area during the off season. I always thought that was the time the players were allowed to go home to their families in other countries and states. And by families I don't mean just their wifes and children. Prior to the season and during the season the team does many community events. The team sponsors some and the Community Foundation sponsors others with the team's help. Most, if not all, events sponsored by the team are publisized on the Marlins web page. The Community Foundation sends out regular notices of when and where their events are held. You just need to take the time to sign up for it. Just because you aren't going to them dosen't mean they aren't happening. Could they do more? Probably yes. But I would be willing to bet they are right along with all other MLB teams when it comes to this sort of thing. Again Bob, you just don't read do you ? I ask again, when is the last time the Marlins held an event, ANY KIND OF EVENT in south Miami-Dade County ? That is a potential source of income that is completely ignored. The real problem with the Marlins is the lack of support from Broward County more than Miami-Dade, because the team is a lot closer AND easier to access for Broward residents, than many Miami-Dade residents. I came here a fan of another NFL team and I still support that team. I was living here when the Marlins came into existence, so I became a Marlins fan. I refuse to become a Dolphan because of the local fan base. And at times it can be so very hard to remain a Marlins fan because of that same fan base attitude. Look at the first game this year as a good example. Beaten by the Jets. The Phins had 2 premier RB on the team that got a total of 15 touches. 2 time outs left on the clock when the final whistle blew. But was it poor time management or play calling that cost the Phins that game??? Not according to the fan base. It was because the infield dirt was still on the field, so it was the Marlins fault. I watched that game. And I could have sworn the Jets were playing on the same field. I go to one or two Phins games every year. Not to root for any particular team. Just because I happen to like the NFL. If MLB fans here took that same attitude........ Of course maybe they are tired of hearing the crying and excuses of the locals.

I don't know about that Rab. The Rays have taken the Marlins recipe for building. But I like the Marlins future better. At least we have a stadium in the works that will probably get done, which means we will have the $$$ to keep filling in the blanks well into the future. The Rays future stadium deal isn't looking all that great right now. For example.... This season on our trip to St Pete we got off the highway to hit a store on the island. You wouldn't believe the amount of signs in front yards urging residents to VOTE NO ON THE STADIUM ISSUE. And although the stadium workers that I questioned about it tried to sound like they thought things would work out, they didn't sound too convincing. More like they were trying to convince themselves. And from what I understand, the Nats have a pretty bright future in the not so distant future. Just that most of their talent is at the A level. If handled correctly they could make some noise in a couple years. And it wouldn't surprise me a bit. Regardless of how much Mungo whines about the way things are done here, alot, if not most teams are starting to go with our recipe. And it is working. Of course most of those teams don't have a Mungo-ish type fan base.

Eventully I think they get it turned around but I bet the marlins make the PO before the fins make it agian.
October 11, 200817 yr I dont have any problems with the fins just some of their fans who say i hope the marlins dont make the PO so the 1-15 dolphins(this is before the fins won 2 in a row) dont have to play on dirt or the crappy hurricanes who i love. As of late the only team in south fla to play in DS with any talent has been the marlins. After the last two games, you have to believe that is changing. And the Hurricanes will improve as the Cokerized players are driven off the team. The Marlins - playing well but not good enough to make the playoffs is still a failure as a season. As Herm Edwards famously said once in a press conference, "You play to win the game", not to have a nice season. The Marlins again next year are going to overhaul the team, and bring in players that are not proven in MLB. It might be a good season, but then again we could lose 100 next year. I think the Marlins have the shakier future, and are by far the tougher sell to the public. I think the canes will get better but as for the fins that mickey mouse offense will only work for so long. The Marlins team is improving with a solid core, Mungo you just obviously don't get that not everything in the world is black or white. You can have a good season without winning the world series, especially when you start that season with the Mark Hendrickson's and the Burke Badenhops of the world in your rotation. I'm not going to explain it any further because you're just going to rebut with "You don't have the heart of a warrior" ... The Marlins are easily the best team in South Florida in terms of product put on the field (playing surface). Also, with the stadium deal in place, the Marlins' future is FINALLY anything BUT shaky, as soon as that sucker is built, we can start retaining more players. And, I agree with Dom and I'll take it one step further, I can see the Marlins making it to the playoffs before any other South Florida team (major bowls in the 'Canes' case) except for maybe the Heat, because the eastern conference typically has bad teams make the playoffs so they can be mediocre and get in. Edit: Really, words can't describe how livid I am to see you regard this season as a "Failure"... 2004-2005 were failures... 1998-2001 were failures... 2008 is NOT a failure and anybody in baseball will tell you that, yes... even the players. The goal is to win the World Series, success is winning more than you are expected to. We were expected to lose 100 games.
