November 28, 200817 yr A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said. The 34-year-old worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m. Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him. CAUGHT ON CAMERA: WAL-MART CROWD MOMENTS BEFORE DEADLY STAMPEDE "He was bum-rushed by 200 people," said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back." The unidentified victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:03 a.m., police said. The cause of death wasn't immediately available pending results of an autopsy. A 28-year-old pregnant woman was knocked to the floor during the mad rush. She was hospitalized for observation, police said. Early witness accounts that the woman suffered a miscarriage were unfounded, police said. Three other shoppers suffered minor injuries, cops said. Before police shut down the store, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the store clerk's life. "They were working on him, but you could see he was dead, said Halcyon Alexander, 29. "People were still coming through." Only a few stopped. http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2008/1...mart_after.html I hope these idiots live with guilt for the rest of their lives.
November 28, 200817 yr I can understand the shopping rush of "Black Friday", but this is just downright sickening.... Think about it. A life was lost because people couldn't wait to go shopping. Unbelievable.
November 28, 200817 yr I'm actually somewhat shocked that this hasn't happened before (to my knowledge). I would really like to know why that pregnant woman was there at all. Not a good decision, future mom...

Not a good decision, future mom... Exactly about the mom. Also, people are just stupid, like why is running over people gonna make it any easier to get things. If people just walk things will go smoothly. It is like people who stand up at events when they can see just the same siting down.
November 28, 200817 yr Author I'm actually somewhat shocked that this hasn't happened before (to my knowledge). I'm pretty sure it has.

Not a good decision, future mom... so she can't go shopping because she's pregnant? Not on a day like today, she shouldn't. People don't get trampled over and killed everywhere, obviously, but there's always a lot of pushing and shoving when malls/stores open on Black Friday.

On a day that is both high stress and dangerous (both from stampedes and the fact that people are out looking to steal from people) it really isn't all that smart for her to be out. Let alone camp out waiting for the doors to open.
November 28, 200817 yr Yes, I was saying that because it was Black Friday WHEN THE STORE OPENED. Everyone knows that's a crazy scene.
November 29, 200817 yr It's the American way. The American spends money the American doesn't have. Greed, Greed, Greed Is this what America has come down to? :confused

November 29, 200817 yr I hope those idiots have trouble sleeping for the rest of their lives. They acted like mindless ignorant morons and someone was killed because they couldn't walk into a store like human beings.
November 29, 200817 yr Now police are reviewing the security tapes and trying to see if they can identify some of the perpetrators. Unfortunately they said it's pretty difficult to correctly identify people from the tapes they have.
November 30, 200817 yr Now police are reviewing the security tapes and trying to see if they can identify some of the perpetrators. Unfortunately they said it's pretty difficult to correctly identify people from the tapes they have. The sad thing is a lot of stores don't even have any big special deals. This is just a lot of over hype with very few good deals.
November 30, 200817 yr It's the American way. The American spends money the American doesn't have. True.
November 30, 200817 yr this is why i never shop on black friday...it brings out the assholes in people.
November 30, 200817 yr I just dont understand why no one helped him when he fell down. But then again it is NY and its filled with assholes.
December 1, 200817 yr Now police are reviewing the security tapes and trying to see if they can identify some of the perpetrators. Unfortunately they said it's pretty difficult to correctly identify people from the tapes they have. There's a movie in which a mob tries to kill Spencer Tracy by dynamiting and burning down the jail where he was being held. He escapes but is presumed dead and then about 20 or so guys in the mob are brought to trial on murder charges after they were identified in newsreel footage. I think the movie was based on an actual case but not sure. Fury: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0027652/
December 5, 200817 yr Actually, I just want to clarify something about the incident that I recently heard when the police mouthpiece was speaking about it. The problem is that when the man fell, people were beign pushed from behind to get into the store, so I don't know how preventable it would have been once it began. The people pushing from behind had no idea a man was being trampled. The sickening thing to me is the fact that after trampling him, people continued to shop
December 5, 200817 yr I thought it was pretty insane that the rushing shoppers actually destroyed the front doors with sheer force.
