Orioles system has completely turned around, same with the Royals. Really the only organizations that you can say are doing substantially worse than us are the Pirates and Nationals.

I'm not sure what you mean by "substantially", but to me it's all quite simple: We spend less and our team does better than any of those mentioned. Over the last 6 seasons (2003-2008) we've had only 2 seasons (2006, 2007) where the team wasn't competetive within the division throughout the season and finished over 500. I'm not even bringing up championships.
January 7, 200917 yr i cant believe we are even talking about this. this is insane, if south florida cant support the marlins, NOONE else can... i wanna see one of these other "optional" cities like portland or vegas build them a half a billion dollar ballpark. portland is a cow town with a population less than hialeah and vegas is going bankrupt.

I'm not even bringing up championships. I don't really care much about yesterday, I care about today and tomorrow. And I think most fans feel that way. Don't forget the past but don't live in it. By "don't forget the past" it's "do these front offices have a track record" not "whoever did better in the past is best" The Brewers have been competitive the past several years. Since 2005, they have 13 more wins than the Marlins. Their farm system isn't as good as our but it's still legit, they have a higher payroll limitation than us ergo can keep more of their young talent, and their front office has shown that they know what they're doing. The rangers have 4 more wins than us since 2004, play in a tougher division, and have probably the best farm system in all of baseball. They get a lot of hate for their lack of pitching but they have done well the past several years and have an overloaded system. The Padres finished below 80 wins for the first time since 2003. Even with their horrible 2008, they still have 9 more wins on us since 2004, although they do play in a worse division. And certainly their farm system doesn't touch ours, but it's still solid. I actually didn't realize the Mariners have been so bad since 2003, I thought they had been around our level but they're been quite below us. They do have a solid system though and a new FO, so I'll call a mulligan for me there :cool And with the Royals and Orioles, they certainly don't approach our pedigree but it's much like the Rays situation. New FO that is making the right moves that takes over a system with a lot of talent thanks to the incompetence of the previous FO. I certainly wouldn't rather be one of their fans but they are headed in the right direction. The Pirates and Nationals are just in horrible states. The Pirates have new FO that hopefully will change things around, but unlike a Royals/O's situation, their farm is just flat out stupid (LOL moskos), and I'm sure Bowden's time will come to an end eventually. edit: and as far as what exactly a "solid" system is, i'd say solid system is an above average system that can fill holes. We have a great system. The Rangers have a great system. The Orioles and Royals have good-to-great systems.

January 7, 200917 yr Toronto has finished below 80 wins since 2004 and finished second in the al east just two years ago, they're doing fine, they're just faulted by playing in the best division of baseball. The Reds have certainly been in a poor state though.

I'd say Oklahoma City might be able to. The NBA never saw that as an option and then quickly changed their minds while New Orleans was playing there after Hurricane Katrina and now we have the OK City Thunder. I am surprised that Indianapolis never comes up. Sadly, I bet even California could support another team though I would hate to see that happen.
