November 4, 200322 yr Our boys in the AFL are not performing very well under the desert heat. Jason Stokes is looking absolutely pathetic with 18K and 1BB in 53AB and 4 errors at first base in only 12 games. I honestly don't see him doing much at the ML level because he can't make forking contact. All 3 of our pitchers are getting the crap bombed out of them with righty Lincoln Holdzkom having the best time of it. (11.2IP, 11K, 7BB, 9ER) Both lefty Todd Moser and righty Trevor Hutchinson are getting bombed and can't seem to strike out ANYONE. The lone bright spot is the continued resurgence of a favorite of mine, C/1B/3B Josh Willingham. He's showed decent patience at the plate (7BB, 14K, 51AB) and very good power (2 doubles, 1 triple, and 3 jacks)...look for this guy in ST! I'll try and update periodically.

November 5, 200322 yr Author He's tearing it up and playing so well they have him at first with Stokes DH'ing.

Pitching seems to be a problem throughout the entire league this fall. Lots of high scoring games each night. This definitely can't be a good thing...
November 5, 200322 yr adrian? i think u all seem to 4 get that he is not ours anymore..he is property of the texas rangers system..we traded him in the deal for ugie
November 5, 200322 yr yea well that first guy didnt seem to know that sayin that he is sharing dh and 1st base duties with stokes? if he knew that he wouldnt say that
November 5, 200322 yr yea well that first guy didnt seem to know that sayin that he is sharing dh and 1st base duties with stokes? if he knew that he wouldnt say that in the arizona fall league, each team is composed of prospects & coaches from a few different clubs. by coincidence, the saguaros include prospects from the marlins and the rangers. so when the guy said adrian is starting while jason is DH'ing, he was referring to the fact that theyre both on the same team.

You have break an egg to make an omelette. AG was the price we paid for a shot at, and ultimately winning the World Series. I'd do it again a hundred out of a hundred times.
November 5, 200322 yr It was hard to lose such a good prospect (Adrian Gonzalez), but we have a WORLD SERIES to show for it
November 5, 200322 yr It was hard to lose such a good prospect (Adrian Gonzalez), but we have a WORLD SERIES to show for it yup! i dont think anybody would disagree with that move considering what it netted us. but damn, this team is going to be horrendously bad a few years down the line... it scares me to even think about it. we better get some top prospects for DLee, Enc, and possibly Lowell.
November 6, 200322 yr Author Anyone got news on jeff allison? He's probably getting ready or playing winter ball as he was not one of the 6 players selected to represent the Marlins at the AFL. sheff get a clue.

The move doesn't bother me at all, but A-Gonz will be a very solid Mark Grace type player.
November 6, 200322 yr I didn't think this needed it's own thread, and since this is sort of a minor league news thread, I'll post it here: The Sun-Sentinel says the Marlins have signed 4 six-year minor league free agents: C Matt Treanor, P Aaron Small, P Marty McLeary and P David Manning. Treanor, Small and McLeary played for the 'Topes last year and Manning played for the Brewers AAA affiliate, the Indianapolis Indians. His stats: 6-8, 4.91 ERA, 23 G, 17 GS, 99 IP, 103 H, 60 BB, 76 K
November 6, 200322 yr I wouldn't worry about Stokes not hitting in the AFL. He is about 3 years out from the big club. This kid's a player and has tremendous bat speed. Maturity and patience will be the key for him. I know they've got him inked for first in future plans, especially after trading Gonzalez, but his defense will have to pick it up a step. Hopefully, he'll gain some ground next year in Carolina. I watched him for two years in high school. He is a stud that will hit 30-40 jacks a season down the road.
November 6, 200322 yr Author I hope your right...he is looking more like a strikeout king than anything else.
November 6, 200322 yr Adrian Gonzalez was not living up to the hype. He has very little power, and even if he does hit .300 at MLB level, you can get a guy in FA to do that WITH some pop at 1B. Example A - Jeff Conine. Stokes is the better prospect, has way more power and excellent bat speed. I think judging him right now in Fall League is a little jumpy. Give him time, and a few years. As for our young pitchers, Hutchinson and Allison are two top-of-the-rotation arms to keep in mind. Again, be patient. And I think we will net some big prospects with Lee being traded...unless he wants to earn about $5MM per year...

It doesn't matter what Adrian Gonzalez does anymore. He could have a career like Mark Grace and add 300 HRs and the trade was still worth it. We got a World Championship by trading him away so no matter what he does in his career, I will always look at that deal as a good trade. I'm a firm believer in the "flags fly forever" philosophy; whatever you have to do to win a championship is worth it. That being said, I think Gonzalez is going to be a flat out bust. I know he's very young but our drafts under Dombrowski were spotty at best, and they were terrible when selecting high school hitters (Jaime Jones, Josh Booty).
November 6, 200322 yr did you see what happened at az fall league? dernell stinson, player for cincy and who was playing in afl, was shot to death in chandler, az. this has to be tough on his afl team as well as the cincy organization and his family. this is terrible.
