no thats just perception...

so you are saying that you can get a better idea of how a guy is defensively, how he gets jumps on the balls, how he takes a route to the ball etc via a stat.

ok.

Eyes plus stats is the way to go. Multiple eyes, multiple stats.

And I've seen him playing on a somewhat regular basis for the past however many years he has been in Texas.

You havent.

The stats pretty much backup my original statement. He gets to the stuff near him and not much more. Average at best.

You've seen him so much you don't even know what position he plays, don't give me that.

Thirdly, I don't know know what you are arguing Das. You say the stats don't prove anything and that he's average at best. What do the stats say?

That he's average at best! What are you going on about?

oh dont even start. that has little if anything to do with the whole defensive argument.

And your agreeing with the stats has little to do with your "my eyes > stats" argument. I don't even know what we are arguing about.

Frank Catalanotto is released

The Rangers have told Frank Catalanotto that he will not be on the Opening Day roster. It's official. Andruw Jones is on the team.

The Rangers instead released Catalanotto to make room for Jones.

Catalonotto isn't really needed here, with Gload now around.

I like our bench, although it does lack some power.

I don't like our bench for some reason. Something is missing.

Power.

Also...Bonifacio being the team's starting 3B really sucks. Not only because he has no business being there, but also because he'd be valuable off the bench b/c of his versatility.

I guess that's it. It would have been nice to keep Mcpherson and have him platoon with Helms. That could have kept Bonafacio on the bench, and that would have given us good defense.

It be great to have bonerface pinch running off the bench late in the game. I just hope he surprises us all at 3rd and at the plate.

Realistically, I'm just hoping Bonifacio is a +++++++ glove at 3B. If that's the case, that's something we didn't have at all last year, and it would really improve our defense at the corner infield spots, not to mention the already improved range in the outfield.

If Bonifacio gives you great defense, you can live with him at 3B, hitting 8th.

The offense is still just as good as last year's. Despite now having the worst offensive 3B in baseball, the catching platoon is way better, having a Cameron Maybin / shifting Cody Ross to the corner OF not only improves the defense plenty, but it improves the offense b/c it means Amezaga doesn't have to start for a month + anymore, as he did last year.

So the exaggeration of lost offense is just that...an exaggeration.

The only concern, at this point, is the bullpen.
