MIAMI (AP) -Florida Marlins right-hander Anibal Sanchez wants big league pay while he's on the disabled list with a shoulder injury, and the Major League Baseball Players Association has filed a grievance on his behalf. The grievance contends Sanchez was injured when demoted to the minors, in violation of the collective bargaining agreement, union attorney Jeff Fannell said Wednesday. The union contends Sanchez should be on the major league disabled list, which would mean an additional salary of more than $1,400 per day, Fannell said. The Marlins said Sanchez didn't tell them about discomfort in his pitching shoulder until after he was demoted May 4 to Triple-A Albuquerque. He'll miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery June 21 for a torn labrum, and it's uncertain whether he'll be ready for spring training in 2008. Sanchez nursed a sore shoulder last offseason and made only six starts this year, going 2-1 with a 4.80 ERA. A meeting between the union and commissioner's office to discuss the grievance is likely. I know you're being a sarcastic ass with that comment, but more than likely one of Nolasco or Johnson as 2nd year arbitration eligible player would be moved. They'd be making 2-3 times as Anibal depending on how much they throw down in 2009. And really, with the way we are abusing Nolasco he's looking like a real good trade candidate if he is able to hold up this year. Nolasco/Johnson, Volstad, Anibal, Miller, West is what I imagine 2010 looking like. AAA would be sick with Thompson, Trahern, G. Taylor, Winters, and Sinkbiel, and the Marlins could specifically target A+ and AA starters when they trade away most of Uggla, Cantu, Ross, Hermida, Nolasco/Johnson, Amezaga, and a few of the relievers, since we're packed with hitters everywhere. We're in good shape. Trading off these guys make sense. It's going to be ok, and we're going to keep getting better.

It didn't look like he had any chance of winning this. But whatever. He won so we move on. And those that think because he won means he won't be on the team any more have nothing at all to base that opinion on. Show some proof of other players that won a grievence vs this team and got traded because of it. Otherwise it's simply taking another poor opportunity to do some FO bashing.
March 13, 200917 yr WTF? This looked like a slam dunk for the Marlins. He didn't say anything about being hurt until he got sent down. That isn't the organization's problem, it's the player's problem. There has to be more to this than we have heard, but I thought we were hearing the whole story.

From what I rememebr Sanchez's version was he told the Marlins of the injury after they took him out of the Mets game but before they told him he was going down and according to the Marlins Sanchez told them after he was told he was going down. Obviously someone was lying and it looks like after gathering all the relevant information the arbitrator thought it was the Marlins who were lying. This is not a surprise as it was obvious he was injured and it was not credible that the Marlins didn't know or suspect of the injury. Everyone on this board knew something was wrong with him but apparently management had no clue. BS.
