Why should I get a PS3?

Featured Replies

Here's the deal. I already have a 360 and a Wii. I'd love to get myself a PS3 but I can't think of any practical reason to spend $400 buck on it. The only game I really want to play on it is MLB 09: The Show and the rest of their games seem largely generic. I don't care about a BluRay player too much.

Ok those PS3 lovers out there, convince me!

You will forever be able to play me, Schnellders, online in games of The Show.

If that isnt reason enough to buy one, well then sorry I dont know what is.

This is probably the best reason... he's right... though, I don't have/want a PS3

But on a serious note, as time passes, the catalogue of PS3 exclusive games gets bigger and better:

MLB The Show, Uncharted, Killzone 2, God of War, Gran Turismo, Heavy Rain, Infamous, Ratchet & Clank, Little Big Planet, MAG, Metal Gear Solid, Motorstorm, Resistance

Also the fact that online play is free

Buying a PS3 just to play MLB 09 The Show seems kinda foolish IMO

It would be but there is a hell of a lot more to the PS3 other than the best baseball game around

It is, that's why I need convincing to buy one. I'd like this purchase to be justified.

Yea, I'm in the same boat as you right now.

I was at Wal-Mart earlier this week, and wondered my way to the electronics section with my fiance. I then convinced myself to purchase a 42" Phillips LCD HDTV 1080P Flat-Screen on a whim, which is bigger than the kitchen in our one bedroom apartment (at least, it almost is).

Well, to go with my TV, I figured why not get a PS3? A perfect addition for a TV like that, right? Plus, I can watch Bluray on it! BUT, I stopped myself from adding another $500 to my Amex by reminding myself the same thing as Rab- I only want '09 The Show, that's it. So, what should we freakin' do?

P.S. I think it's important to note that I don't have any game consoles at the moment. But, I really only enjoy playing sports games... Not into anything else. Is it worth it?

You can watch porn on it ... without worrying about spyware etc.

You're right in that 360 and ps3 are largely similar in terms of exclusives though.

Well if you don't care about blue ray, and are only interested in The Show, I don't see how you can be convinced.

I will tell you, The Show is amazing, the most realistic baseball sim I have played, every at bat feels like a battle and thus getting a hit feels damn good, and walking is even more rewarding since it requires incredible amount of pitch recognition (except on the rare occasion in which the pitcher is completely wild). I have already spent countless hours on road to the show and I haven't even started a franchise yet.

The games in both consoles are pretty similar, so I can see why you wouldn't have interest in anything else the PS3 has to offer, I only have two exclusives in my PS3 library, The Show and Resistance 2, and the other two games are Street Fighter 4 and Burnout Paradise, both are available on the 360 as well. But as others have mentioned the PS3 has had some very nice exclusives lately, Killzone 2 looks amazing and I will be getting it soon, people say LBP is good, but I just can't get myself to spend 60 bucks on it...later this year we are supposed to get God of War and that should be a must own for any PS3 owners.

I guess my point is, if you have the money, you really want play the Show, and are looking forward to at least a few other PS3 exclusives, then go for it. But if you are only interested in The Show, even though is a great baseball sim, I don't see how you can be convinced.

Valkyria Chronicles is one exclusive that should not be missed. It is absolutely amazing. If you like strategy, rpgs, and even a little bit of FPS then VC is the game for you. Demon's Souls is a pretty cool game as well, but you have to import it. Has English voice acting and menus though.

I love my PS3 to no end, but one part of that is because I have a backwards compatible version. I get to play PS2 games as well, so it's even more awesome. I personally wouldn't get it for just MLB, but there's plenty of games that interest me...

I just bought a Ps3 and it was mainly to play the show...and now that i have it i find new things everyday day that makes me love it even more....the blue-ray is amazing...you get internet access....free online play...download music...and so many other things... i love it

Free Online play, Internet access, blue tooth headsets! Plus blue ray. Oh and the games on it are amazing. Just buy it Rab. Trust me, it's worth it.

This.

I love being able to play some PS1 games that I never had the opertunity to play (I did not have a console till I got my 360, PS3, and Wii (almost at the same time)). Being able to play blue ray is also a bonus, and MLB '09 the Show is great...(and I have MLB '10 the Show to look forward too :thumbup )

so while I have always been a staunch supporter of the 360 and wii I have recently been wanting to buy a ps3... lol. I know I made fun of it in this thread too but whatever, the video game nerd inside of me is drooling over god of war 3 and mlb the show. I was looking on craigs list and theres a small amount of people selling ps3's at a decent price. I am a bit worried if any of them are fake though. I saw one listing where some guy was going to the army and all his family lived in another country so he was going to sell his ps3 and 42 inch hdtv for only $300. something doesnt seem right in that. lol

oh also, its really not a big deal at all but it just kinda annoys me slightly... it's "blu ray" not "blue ray" sorry lol

The PS3 is a multimedia center.

You can store photos on it for a slide show, play music through your TV Via a bluetooth option from your computer, the blu ray feature, the games, and when the game designed specifically for it come out, they look awesome. You can also upload the music to the ps3 permanently.

Mlb 09 is great, but you HAVE to try Killzone 2 and When it comes out Batman Arkum Asylum.

Online play is free, so all you need is a disk to enjoy it. If it sits there for 2 months, no need to rush out to the store to buy a XBL card to play for a few hours, you just power up and play to your hearts consent.

I wouldn't touch a second hand PS3 if I were you especially since they're getting cheaper. The first PS3s to hit the market are ticking time bombs and brick frequently -- that and I've heard backwards compatability issues with them. My buddy who got one when they first came out had his bricked when GTA 4 came out and f***ed everybody's PS3 up, mine just ran slow as f*** while RockStar addressed their server issues and I got mine in Jan 07. Be smart and at least get a used one from GameStop or you really will end up with a $400 door stop.
