Anyway i guess the team is pretty set with cantu at 1st. I just hope gaby is athletic enough to handle it, i dont want guys bunting on us constantly.

He wasn't very good at it, in UM.

 

As good as they were offensively, Gaby & Braun were pretty attrocious, defensively, on the left side.

I'm shocked it was that high. I completely missed that and was basing it on his time in A which was near exclusive 1B.

 

Anyways, I hope he can become "Cantu passable" at the other corner. That would be perfect to bridge the gap to Dominguez.

Yeah for some reason Baseball Prospectus had him playing 59 at 3b last year, but most other sites have him at 62. They had him worth 1 run defensively at 3b, which is slightly above average, and 0 runs in the past two years at 3b, which is average. I don't know how much stock to put into that, though. And I know errors aren't great indicators of how good or bad a fielder the player is, but his Fielding % at 3b in his minor league career is an embarrassing .913. I guess the only real way to find out is to wait and see what he does there if Fredi decides to put him at 3b

Why is Gaby at 3B and Cantu at 1B any better than Cantu at 3B and Gaby at 1B?

Cantu is obviously better at 1B than 3B, sure. He seemed to be learning the position, though, and could approach average to slightly below average, IMO. And I believe word was that Gaby could be average to above average at 1B. So why is this not the superior combo and the way to go?

I agree although they both hit .320 with 20+ HR's and 70 RBI's at UM they both made almost 1 error per game.

 

i would like for him to try to play 3rd again but if he's as bad as he used to be then keep him at 1st and move Cantu to 3rd
