This is basically what I have been afraid of. Lindstrom's greatest strength is that fastball, but it's worthless without another decent pitch to use. When he can't even throw that fastball correctly, he's about as good out there as a Little Leaguer. I don't think he's going to be much of a closer until he has one or two other pitches to use that are at least average.

As much as I hate to say I told you so.............................

Btw, he's not injured. The velocity is there already, he just got hit. He gets hit b/c he's flat, and his control isn't great. This isn't some sort of surprise.

People need to realize that Lindstrom has never been that good. 5 September saves when the season meant nothing for his team don't mean much. 5 = small sample.

And before someone says "well, omgz double standard he has 5 save opps." this year...look at some other stats. He's nothing more than average.

Also...there should be a poll. Option #2 should be Hanley Ramirez.

If you want to get picky like some...option #3 would be John Baker for calling all fastballs in the 9th inning, again. Although, those people seem to ignore that Lindstrom is a grown man at the age of 29, who can shake off his catcher (hopefully).

Safe to say that Leo Nunez...even Kiko have earned a CHANCE to close.

Dont disagree Nunez should probably be closer for now, just dont write off Lindstrom yet, take another look at that inning. Slider wasnt working early , so they went fastball, fastball, yet some of them had crazy movement! Never before seen from him, probably shocked both Baker & Lindstrom. Too much movement so then what happens, strikes out Brumblett on beauty slider, then gets squeezed on first pitch to Victorino after walking Rollins. So he dials it back to 94 mph, meatball, no movement, game over. This was a very different, wierd, Lindstrom. In a way , encouraging.

I was at the game tonight and I saw every pitch....

I can easily say that that was the hardest loss I've ever had to swallow and I've seen over a hundred Marlins games in person...

I left the stadium with a dewars buzz and the feeling that "hey, its just one game" but this one still stings...

When I saw Nunez dismantle the Phillies in the top of the 8th I had a feeling come over me in person...

I felt that Fredi should have stuck with the hot hand even though the game was in a closers situation...

hind sight is always 20-20 but I had a bad feeling taking out a pitcher that threw 90% strikes and set down the order in stride in the top of the 8th

.... I sincerely hope that the Marlins can recover from such a devastating loss but I wouldn't be surprised if this series ended in a sweep...

:( :(

:...(

Well it certainly was a devastating loss. These type of games happens to every team in baseball numerous times in a year, but that doesn't make them any easier to take. JJ was on fire and was absolutely deserving of the W. Next time up he faces Johan again, and it will be damn tough to repeat his victory over him.

Nice to see Puggla hit a 3 run dinger. Hanley needs to increase his effort.

Tomorrow is another day, but even tho its early in the season, I classify it as a MUST win, to stop this slide and return some confidence to our boys.

damn, i stopped watching in the 8th when we were up 3-0. then i tune in for the final score and and lose 7-3. i'm going to get hell in school if the marlins don't win the next 2 because of all the phillies fans in my area.

if Lindstrom not ready to close donot put him in game he still not pitching well

You just kind of have to hope he's still shaking off that injury rust. Then again, even Brad Lidge blew a save this year.

The baseball rule of not taking your closer out no matter how bad he sucks is stupid. While I hate Fredi for not taking him out, its not like any other manager would have.

Hanley needs to get his head out of his ass. Should have been beched after his THREE baserunning blunders in ONE inning. Not good enough.

Not any more stupid than the one that says you should take out your set-up man who has pitched a 1-2-3 8th.

Why is baseball today so predictable?
