July 14, 200917 yr Assuming that the Marlins are truly not fibbing about wanting to "ADD" you would have to think they will be looking at 3B. I know I probably missed a few 3B here but I came up with 12. Freddy Sanchez, Melvin Mora, Scott Rolen and Garrett Atkins probably make too much money for the Fish. The next four on the list is where I hope the Marlins are looking: Jhonny Peralta, Mark Teahan, Kevin Kouzmanoff and Ty Wigginton. If the Marlins are looking at the bargain bin then there are always guys like Josh Fields, Andy Marte and Blake DeWitt. In a perfect world the Marlins would come up with a way to acquire someone like Brandon Wood of the Angels but I see him going in a substantial trade for pitching. It will be interesting to see what the Marlins do in the next couple of weeks but 3B is definately somewhere they need to improve as Bonifacio is just not producing enough to stay there.
July 14, 200917 yr It seems people in this forum are not content to admit that Bonifacio is our starting 3rd baseman. The earlier you learn to accept that the better off you will be.

Peralta is pretty bad offesnivly and defensivly, Kouz is another low average homerun hitter and Wigginton is getting old so the best choice is probably Teahan. Fields, Marte and DeWitt aren't players that they are looking for because they are basically going to put up less then average to average numbers which is what we are getting form Bonifacio. I'd rather stick with Boner and just call up Gaby and hope he can put up decent numbers then put Boni on the bench.
July 14, 200917 yr Author It seems people in this forum are not content to admit that Bonifacio is our starting 3rd baseman. The earlier you learn to accept that the better off you will be. Let's see. Bonifacio has played in 83 games for the Marlins this season and he is 90 for 349 (.258 avg, .628 OPS) with 52 runs scored, 1 homer, 21 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. That OPS is horrific for a starting 3B in the major leagues. I remember some hating of Luis Castillo and Juan Pierre going on in this forum. Bonifacio is the same player minus the good batting average and in Castillo's case the Gold Glove.

I'm a big Brandon Wood fan and I can see him going for a guy like West. It's hard to gauge what kind of trade value Wood has right now because he hasn't shown more than glimpses of his potential in his major league playing time and the Angels have been incredibly reluctant, perhaps foolishly so, to give him the playing time he needs to adjust. Because of this Wood isn't gonna go for the value of top prospects even though he is not far removed from being one himself.

Bonifacio is the small player minus the good batting average and in Castillo's case the Gold Glove. But he's an exception becuase he's basically a 2nd baseman/short stop who just converted to 3rd(some errors are from the change of position but some are just of stupidity so that's w/e). The OPS isn't going to be high because he won't slug for sh*t. Right now you give him a chance because he has been heating up this month but if we don't want to add with out subtracting like I said before we should just call up Gaby Sanchez and hope he puts up good numbers so we could keep Boni on the bench as a utility player.
July 14, 200917 yr mora, sanchez, and rolen are paid a sh*t load of money which immediately eliminates them from the conversation. i think teahen will be a marlins before the trade deadline. josh fields is an interesting situation in which a change in scenery might turn him around to hit like he did that season he had 22 homers
July 14, 200917 yr idk about fields since he's one of those big power, high K players, but I do think Teahen makes sense.
July 14, 200917 yr How about Brendon Wood of LAA? He has a good numbers in Triple-A, but he was stuck by Izturis, Figgins and Eybar.
July 14, 200917 yr How about Brendon Wood of LAA? He has a good numbers in Triple-A, but he was stuck by Izturis and Figgins. i think that the angels might want to hold onto him and give him the everyday 3rd base job next season if they decide to let figgins leave
July 14, 200917 yr ik weve had a lot of talk about getting a 3rd baseman but what if we maybe put coghlan or sanchez at 3rd and maybe trade some pitching prospects for a big outfield bat?? or possibly a deal with texas they seem to have alot of that?

Dude is getting older, makes too much, and has been a clubhouse cancer for every team he has played for.
July 14, 200917 yr Aubrey Huff or Adam LaRoche would be perfect. And move Cantu back to third? Yes? I don't know about recently, but Aubrey Huff was a third basemen.
July 15, 200917 yr I say we don't sign/trade for any of the above. Instead, bring Gaby from the minors, and put Cantu back in third. At the rate Bonifacio is going, he'll be an even worse third baseman than Cantu could've ever dreamed of.
July 15, 200917 yr Aubrey Huff or Adam LaRoche would be perfect. And move Cantu back to third? Yes? I don't know about recently, but Aubrey Huff was a third basemen. Huff can play both first and third, but LaRoche can only play first. We don't necessarily need to trade for a third baseman, just a third baseman or a first baseman, since Cantu can play either position.
July 15, 200917 yr I just read that "a fringe prospect" should be enough to get aubrey huff. then again he is making 8million
