I'm pretty sure that Brad Penny is a free agent next season, and he might not be worth so much money. Since the Marlins have some holes in the rotation they need to fix, should the Marlins pursue Brad Penny? Of course, the deciding factor is money, but I can see the Marlins signing him. What are your thoughts?

ah DAMN! lol i thought it was an article you had seen somewhere. BOOO lol

yeah I'd love to have him, but we're cheap and stuff...so it probably won't happen.

Considering his numbers are falling back down to what his peripherals say they should be (4.22 ERA since may and has a 4.22 FIP on the year), I'd assume he finishes the year around a 4.6 ERA and gets a multi-year contract with someone.

if we can get him for 1/5 like boston did that wouldn't be bad, just depends on if payroll goes up or not. However he was also coming off of injury. I don't think he signs a 1 year contract again since he's shown he's healthy. And I wouldn't be for giving a 32 year old a multi year contract.

Some pitching desperate team will overpay for him.

he'd be nice if he would sign cheap. but despite his record he hasn't really been that good this season. i'd rather find upgrades in right field and 3rd base in the offseason. hopefully miller stops sucking and anibal comes back healthy so that next season our rotation will be filled

He'd be a great pickup and wouldn't cost much

Wouldn't bet on it.

Like LordMangus said, a pitching deprived team will very very likely overpay for him. He came cheap last offseason because he was injured. That will not be the case this offseason if he stays healthy.

Didn't the Sox inquire about Gaby, if their not going to promote they may as well trade him.

I'm not talking about the offseason

Well then, acquiring Brad Penny for this season makes no sense either. He's not going to put this team over the top, and trading anything for a rental of a mediocre player would be a bad deal.

I agree.

Though next year I would like to get a veteran pitcher, perhaps for the backend of the rotation, to give us some consistency and ability to actually know what to expect every fifth day.

He'd be a solid4/5 starter who would solidify the back of the rotation. We are not out of the race and he wouldn't cost much

mlbtraderumors says he could go for a "b" prospect

then give them one of our many b type outfielders or maybe a pitcher

Most of our outfielders are "C" outfielders. They have no value.

Gaby Sanchez is a B prospect though.

Jake Smolinski could probably get it done. Not that I'd do it, but just saying. I don't imagine they'd have interst in Gaby or Coghlan unless they plan to flip them. And those 3 are probably the only guys B- or above that aren't our top bats.

Just saying Gaby to put the "B" into perspective. I haven't even looked into the ideas of the trade.
