July 21, 200916 yr In other news, Ryan Tucker should be rejoining the Zephyrs within the next 2 days.

July 21, 200916 yr If true, and I'm not doubting it because we have 13 pitchers currently on the roster, the only reason I can see for bringing a guy up from a hitter's league whose offensive numbers have been steadily dropping the last couple weeks is to display him for a trade. Hometown-boy's fans shouldn't get all excited just yet.
July 21, 200916 yr Well, it would make sense. I do have to wonder, though, what the game plan is as far as playing time between him, Bonifacio, and Cantu. Young players usually aren't called up to ride the bench. Unless, of course, you are going to deal your starting second basemen and want your future starting third basemen to not freak out.

Hometown-boy's fans shouldn't get all excited just yet. I don't know what your issue with Gaby is, besides that he might replace your buddy Bonifacio. Yes, he hit well in a hitter's league this year. He also hit well in the SL last year, when he was named MVP. So, you're getting on him because the PCL sucks?

Hometown-boy's fans shouldn't get all excited just yet. I really think that practically every move we make leading up to the deadline is because of the possibility of trade. And it would really say a lot to teams if we were trying to trade Gaby yet we weren't willing to bring him up the majors, even with a below-average third basemen.
July 21, 200916 yr Is it possible that they finally realize that Bonifacio's terrible offense is only matched by his awful defense at third (ex: his two throws in the eighth and ninth last night)? Probably not, but I hope they give Gabby a chance to play. No reason to call him up to bury him on the bench. I still think that Maybin should also be up here. He can't show much more in NO.

Possibly, its just hard for me to comprehend the change finally happening.

I don't know....but I am with you guys in not believing a change will be made until I see Gabby starting at 3B for multiple games in a row.
July 21, 200916 yr There isn't any official word on who is getting called up to fill the roster spot left by Miller, but on the Marlins site it suggests it will be either Maybin, De Aza or Gaby Sanchez (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090721&content_id=5972524&vkey=news_fla&fext=.jsp&c_id=fla)
July 21, 200916 yr It might be worth noting Sanchez is mired in a horrendous slump, his average down to .285 or so and barely above .200 for the last ten days+ while Bonifacio, who has been having his own troubles at the plate since the ASG was hitting well before so. I doubt one error, that the box score would indicate didn't lead to an unearned run would lead to Bonifacio's downfall since Sanchez hasn't exactly been Brooks Robinson at third this year. More likely if it's Sanchez someone is being traded to trigger the event. Oh by the way, Scot Olsen is out for the rest of the season with surprise, surprise, a torn labrum, the injury he's been hiding for a year+ finally caught up to him. Good investment that $3 million.
July 21, 200916 yr The Marlins are calling up corner infieler Gaby Sanchez from Triple A New Orleans to take the roster spot of LHP Andrew Miller, who was optioned late Monday. Sandhez entered spring training as a contender to win an Opening Day roster spot. But an injury and sluggish spring landed him in New Orleans. The 25-year-old University of Miami product is hitting .289 with nine home runs with the Zephyrs. Sanchez spent the early part of the season at first base before switching to third, fueling speculation that the Marlins might be grooming him as a possible replacement for Emilio Bonifacio. The addition of Sanchez, who was a September call-up for the Marlins last season, gives manager Fredi Gonzalez more maneuvering room with his bench. Before Miller was sent down, the Marlins were working with only 12 position players. Now they will be back to 13. It'll be interesting to see how the Marlins use Sanchez to start out. Will they put him on the bench? Or will they go ahead, plop him at third, and turn Bonifacio into the new Alfredo Amezaga? Bonifacio had a rough night Monday, spared of a game-tying error in the eighth when Jorge Cantu gloved his short-hopper,and committing a high-throw error in the ninth, allowing the potential tying run to reach. He also went 0 for 4 and struck out three times. You make the call. Should Sanchez replace Bonifacio immediately? Or should he be used off the bench, at least for now? http://miamiherald.t...by-sanchez.html

July 21, 200916 yr I happen to think, and of course I can be wrong, that Sanchez coming up is more likely because of some other move than a straight replacement at third. Sanchez has been playing poorly for a while now, kind of reliving the Jeremy Hermida syndrome of getting hot enough, for long enough earlier in the season that a current extended slump isn't as obvious in his stats as it might otherwise be. I think Sanchez is the obvious choice if Maybin is being purposely kept down and the slot was open before last night's game, I just don't draw the same conclusions as others do.

Unless gaby gets hit by a bus on the way to the stadium, he has to be an improvement over boner.
