July 21, 200916 yr The Marlins delay Maybin's arbitration (super 2 status to be exact) 1 full season if he's kept down about 25-30 more days.

Would u be so kind to explain it to me then... Dude on the Yankees, red sox,and all other teams in 1st or 2nd place Miller,Volstad,RVH,west,G.Sanchez, coghlin, hermieda,Baker,Bonifacio, would not be in the majors yet...

I was speaking specifically with gaby, who is 25 and has gotten significant time at every level. If he's not ready now he never will be. And every team (EVERY TEAM) calls up prospects who they think are ready, and even some who aren't.
July 21, 200916 yr This is a great series to start Sanchez in. We're playing the Padres, who will probably be the easiest team we'll play against due to their horrid offense (besides the Nats of course.) Experimenting right now on Sanchez seems like a good plan. What scares me most is who's going to be sent down to when we need a 5th pitcher.

Hermida, Baker, and Sanchez are all over 25 years old...how are they not ready to be here? It's one thing if you think they don't belong here, but to say they aren't ready is incorrect. It's either now or never with most of the guys on your list. And you'll find the same situation on every team in the Majors, even the Red Sox and Yankees. The difference is that those two teams can afford to go out and pay to fill a need. Most everyone else has to fill needs from within.

Volstad has proven himself ready for this level, Sanchez is 25, and Baker is 28. Seriously.
July 21, 200916 yr Any attempt to shake/wake the offense up can only be good. We should be able to get by with a four man rotation until the second Cubs game, if my maths is right, so there's nine games for maybe someone to impress or depress with the bat.

Volstad has proven himself only to be unpredictable, dont get me wrong i love his stuff and i think he's going to be great but i hate the fact that he's going to have to learn at ML level instead of getting himself ready in the minors and coming back up when he is completely ready... And Sanchez and Baker are 25,and 28 so yes they are ready with the Marlins but wouldnt be with top teams...Gaby wasnt hitting lately and he got called up anyway...But i do get your point of now or never

July 21, 200916 yr So, basically your point is 'waaaaa we aren't the Yankees and red sox!' look at the crap tons of teams are trotting out there. We arent alone. It never fails to amaze me how many people simply don't understand or ignore our financial situation.
July 21, 200916 yr If he is going to play put him at 1st and Cantu at 3rd. You must be having the biggest internal battle ever. 'who do I hate more, boner or gaby? I CANT DECIDE!!!!!'
July 21, 200916 yr The Marlins delay Maybin's arbitration (super 2 status to be exact) 1 full season if he's kept down about 25-30 more days. Wasn't Maybin's arbitration delayed once we kept him down yesterday? I remember someone saying that we had to keep Maybin down until July 20.

I dont hate either. But I dont want Gaby Sanchez-a guy whos defense at 3rd is just awful-starting there full time. He can play 1st base competently, and while he doesnt have the power for either, at least he wouldnt cost runs if he was on 1st most likely.
July 21, 200916 yr Cantu and bonifacio are also pretty awful at third, and I'm going to guess cantu is better than gaby at first. We saw how long it took cantu to get comfortable at third last season, there's no saying he would be able to even be the merely below average player he was once he got comfortable last year. At least Gaby's been playing there all year.
July 21, 200916 yr From everything I have ever heard about Gaby Sanchez at 3rd both Cantu and Bonifacio are Brooks Robinson by comparison. As for Bonifacio, I dont blame him for Beinfest not being able to see what every other person on the planet sees...hes a utility guy with little upside who has no business being an MLB starter. I blame Beinfest for him being constantly enamored with guys who run fast despite their overall baseball deficiencies.
July 21, 200916 yr You're being hyperbolic. I understand. Both boner and cantu are bad defensive third basemen. Gaby may be worse, but you sound ridiculous. If I remember correctly, cantu's biggest problem at third was throwing. Well, he hasn't made an across diamond throw since last season, so I'd say it's probably not a good idea to move him back.

It's Spike talking about Gaby, what'd you expect?
July 21, 200916 yr ITs just something that tends to bother me about message boards. You make your opinion known and if someone disagrees with it, you dig yourself in to defend it, which is fine. But if your opinion is out of the general consensus, people become totally ridiculous caricatures in their defense of their opinion. See: spike or marlins1 on gaby, Erick on fredi, wmm on sanity, etc.
July 21, 200916 yr What they need to do is shake up the team, get rid of pitching and hitting coaches, even the manager and stop the expressway between aaa and the majors.
