Lindstrom could return next homestand

Featured Replies

does anyone know the era of our current bullpen. just the guys who are in there right now

its gotta be pretty good

ya i know, but i was trying to do it and it kept coming up to 4.9 and thats obviously wrong so i was hoping one of you could do it

Look at my post on the page before.

I am as big as a fan of the front office as anyone, and I always defend them. BUT do you guys think that Beinfest's and Hill's ego might be getting in the way of some of these decisions. Emilio's act is really getting old and I just dont see why they atleast cant give Gaby a shot to take away some ABs from Emilio. Even worse is this Lindstrom bulls***. He was awwwwwwwwwwwwwwful all year and the rest of the pen has been great, why on earth would they bring him back as the closer. Lindstrom just isnt that good, all he has is a 97 mph fastball that he cant command and ABSOLUTELY NO COMMAND OF A SECOND PITCH. I can understand the love affair with Emilio but with Lindstrom I just dont get it.

You suggested giving him the role back if he does well in minor league outings. That, in itself, is stupid.

And I'd say the past month or so, (since Lindstrom's been out), proves just how overrated the closer's role is. If you're a good reliever, you're a good reliever. Every single one of the Marlins current relievers has outpitched Lindstrom thus far this year. Bringing him back (and giving him the closer's role at that...even if he goes to the minors and does well) is as dumb (probably dumber) than starting Emilio Bonifacio everyday.

I agree. After he has a few appearances in the minors he should come back in a mid relief role and do well before we even consider putting him back as the closer.

i never said stick him right back in the closer role but he should not be on the minor leage team he deserves another shot in this bullpen

he doesnt have very much command of his fastball to start with. thats why i said he needs to go to the minors and work on his control.

i know hes not a good closer but there have been many rumors about us getting george sherril or another closer and thats what i was talking about. you should really read and think before you jump all over someone's ass next time.

that might be the dumbest thing i have heard this week.

and if he does good in the minors in 7-8 starts in a row and shows improvement in his control then he deserves another shot. I dont remember the stat but someone posted something saying he had 3-4 starts that really inflated his stats like the phils game. id much rather have a guy like sherril though

First off, they are outings...not starts.

Second, the gamelog excuse is just that...an excuse. Every reliever has had bad games that if you take away...it makes them look better.

And what I said wasn't dumb.

You take out Bonifacio and your options are Helms (not really an upgrade) and Gaby Sanchez (unproven). Right now, every reliever is proving to be an upgrade over Lindstrom at this level this year, and that is proven.

Shouldn't even be on the team, much less the closer of the team.

Eric, the great thing about being 18 yrs old is you know everything, when you grow up and become a man you might want to think before you write stupid, assine, emotional laden statements. Lindstrom has had a great career with the Marlins with ERA of 3.09 and 3.11 the last two years. His saves versus chances is 19 to 22. He has in his career the same number of blown saves as Nunez has for the Marlins this year, three. Eric, when you pick a career after High School make sure it isn't in scouting baseball players as you aren't so good at it.

Now I remember why I quit reading the postings on Marlinsbaseball, most are simply for argument not for thoughtful discussion.

and last year when he was healthy he was downright dominant. fact is, you cant say he is a terrible closer because you dont know how long he has had this injury, and to not give him a job back would be foolish if he is fully healthy

Lindstrom wasn't downright dominant last year.

Downright dominant is what Kiko Calero has done this year.

Shouldn't even be on the team, much less the closer of the team.

Uber, look at the stats this year.

Uber, every reliever on our current roster is pitching well.

Uber, what reliever would you send down?

Uber, you are a Lindstrom supporter. I bet if I were saying this crap about (lets say...Uggla), you'd totally be agreeing. And Uggla has been an All-Star before. Lindstrom? Not so much.

yes he was. after his early season struggles he was our best rp last year

edit, post all star break he had a sub 2 era 1.07 era, and a good baa. you can say that it is a small sample size, but the same thing applies to your argument and he was injured, and he even proved the year before that he is a good rp

oh yeaaa your right hes has a great career, I think your age has gotten to you and maybe you should retire as a baseball fan. Last year he was sent down mid season b/c he was having such a great year. Also, this year he has been fantastic. To say that he has had a great career as a marlins should result in a complete ban from marlinsbaseball.com. So why dont you let the knowledgeable youth do the talking and go take a nap or drink some prune jucie.

Well, you said "year," but yeah I get what you're saying.

And I've never said Lindstrom was bad...all I've said is that he's overrated by some of the fans on this board. Also...if you call him up, who do you demote? And he doesn't deserve to close. That would just be ridiculous, considering the way the pen has pitched lately.

thats true, so he was one of our best relievers.

No he was plain and simply the best.

2.00 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP in 54 IP.

No one was even close to be as good as Joe No last season except maybe Arthur Rhoodes but he was strictly used as a LOOGY so the numbers are in his favor.

he may be over rated, but fact is that he has been pretty good for the past 2 years, and when he wasnt pitching well this year he has had an injury. And i think he eserves to close if he shows over a variety of outings and situations that he can get the job done. this allows meyer to be more effective as well because we dont have to save him for the 9th anymore. and id send down a hitter

yes he was. after his early season struggles he was our best rp last year

He was probably the 4th best reliever on the team if you count Hendrickson and how well he did out of the pen and If Pinto wasn't overused and injured he was better then Lindstrom aswell.

So I'd say it would be Nelson, Rhodes, Hendrickson then Lindstrom.

I've been one of Lindstrom's biggest supporters and I think there is NO WAY he should be closing with the job Leo has done.

Because of the favorable situations in which they were used, I say it's preposterous to say that Hendrix and Rhodes were better than Lindstrom (well, maybe not with Rhodes but definitely with Hendrix).

hendrickson was a f***ing long reliever. ill take stats that were a little worse in tougher situations then what hendrickson did. rhodes was in for 1 batter most times so id take lindstrom over him although rhodes was spectacular.

He was probably the 4th best reliever on the team if you count Hendrickson and how well he did out of the pen and If Pinto wasn't overused and injured he was better then Lindstrom aswell.

True. But I was going by how well they did when they came into relief no matter what the situation or inning.

Lindstrom was however very good last year espcially in the 2nd half and when he took over the closer role.

I think you just proven Uberschnell's point about the pubescent idiocy on this forum.
