Out of State Fans

Featured Replies

Glad to see there are a few other Marlin fans out here in the West.

Salt Lake City, Utah...checking in.

I spent a few years growning up in South Florida ('93-'97), and adopted Marlin allegiances. Finally registered after reading this thread.

Welcome!

San Francisco here, I remember watching the Marlins first game on TV when I was on vacation with my family... I was so excited that day that I was able to get the chance to watch them.

Davenport, Iowa!

Located on the Mississippi River in Eastern Iowa. For those looking on a map its where the Mississippi runs east to west. A city of close to 100,000 people... part of the Quad Cities (Bettendorf and Davenport, Iowa - Moline and Rock Island, Illinois). Total population of about 400,000.

Have been a fan since '95 when the Hawk joined the team. Haven't looked back since.

Have never met another Marlins fan in my life here. The ratio of fans here is probably 70% Cubs, 20% Cards, 10% White Sox.

Was in a bar loaded with Cubs fans during the Bartman game... most restrained jubilation of my life. So awesome that was.

When I went to Iowa State, I was the roommate with a Cubs fan during the infamous Fall of 2003. The afternoon before Game 6, I told him there was going to be a Buckner-like play during the game. He went to a party with his Cubs friends, so I didn't catch him until it was over for a couple hours.

Me: Buckner

Him: f*** you

Me: Fair enough.

We weren't roommates the next semester. It was more than just a Marlins/Cubs fan thing, though. It didn't help it, however.

Hi everyone,

I've just started posting again on this site, but I've been following the Marlins here in the UK since 1997, when channel 5 started showing live games. The Marlins were the first team I saw on tv and I liked them at first because of their name and also because they had a player with my name, Edgar (Renteria).

I couldn't believe they actually went on to win the World Series and I've been hooked ever since. But 2003 was the most special for me.

My dream is to go to the States and see them play, maybe next year. But until then I have to be content with MLB.Tv and this forum.

You'll hate me for this, but raised in Philadelphia, baby.

Life must be hell with all the Philly fans. Couple questions:

Do you still live in Philly?

How do they treat you?

How did you become a Marlins fan?

1. Yes

2. Never really ran into a Phillies fan. But all my relatives are Phillies fans. We don't go a day without arguing.

The day when they won the World series was probably the worst day of my life. Like, in September, no one gave a Rats ass about the Phillies. Then, they make the playoffs. Everyone is cool with it. Then, they get deeper into the playoffs. They're getting hyper now. Then they make the World Series. They go insane. Then, they won the World Series. I swear to you, I thought I was going to die. All these drunk fans out side going ape sh!t because they Phillies won. Riots. Then, in school, all these students pretenting they know what happened going insane. It was pretty epic.

3. Born and raised in Florida for about 4 years. Growing up, I loved Florida because it was my state. I was born there. So, when It was time for me to pick the team I would devote my life to forever, I chose the Marlins. Why didn't I choose the Rays? I don't know. I basically said f*ck them, I like the Marlins now. Do I regret it? No.

I find the Rays to be incredibly boring, they have horrible ignorant announcers, a god awful and disgusting ballpark, and one of the worst teams in MLB for many years until just recently..plus they are in the AL, I hate the AL. Their colors are kinda cool, but the Marlins colors are wayyyy more "Florida" esque.

But hey that's my opinion

I'd be a Rays fan if they were around when I was a kid. I'm north florida fan for every other team and hate the south florida counterpart. But growing up, it was the Marlins or Braves. And f*** the braves.
