So I am a middle school teacher. Classes start on Monday, but tonight is the open house for parents to meet the teachers and such. We have been here all week planning and preparing our classrooms. Today, out of nowhere, my A/C stopped working. I went to the front office to let them know this had happened. The new principal (an idiot, by the way) told me that the A/C guy had just left. I went to check the fuse box and saw that there were NO fuses in mine. Again, back to the principal to tell him this. He gives ME the fuses, and tells me to go install them myself. Hmm, I think, so I go online first to make sure I know exactly what I'm doing. Every walkthrough I see online says to NOT attempt the process unless you have a voltage meter and fuse pullers. I tell the principal that I cannot do it myself and explain to him why. He tells me "just do it really quickly, push them in there quick". I tell him I would get electrocuted, and he disagrees. I ask if he's willing to help, and he says (sitting on his chair while surfing the internet) he is too busy. Again, he tells me to just do it myself and that nothing will happen. I tell him that that thought process may be the reason the A/C guy wasn't able to finish.

Meanwhile, I'm sweating it out until someone fixes it or until I find a new job. Anyone want to help there?

I teach at a school in Broward. I'd rather not name it, you know...just in case. I'm sure I'll be talking plenty of trash about this place in the near future. It has gotten worse each year I've been there.

the principal is a doucher, you should go to your rival school. Become the head coach for basketball, follow a strict coaching scheme similar to the movie Coach Carter, and then beat your former school. and in the press confrence, call out the principal for being a homo and allowing the football team to take steriods. Also infer that this principal had something to do with Dereck Rose cheating on his SAT. sound like a plan?

You've piqued my interest, having gone to middle school in Broward. Though I doubt you're teaching at the middle school I went to 8th grade for, the principal at that school was actually really good.

That pricipal is an asshole.

And I thought I should add that middle school kids are the worst.

Agree

Depends, they can be the worst, but they could be the best too...

To the person who posted the image: yeah, it looks somewhat like that, as far as the exposed wires, but the fuses seem to go in vertically instead.

To PWG: the school where I teach is a new school that opened three years ago (props for spelling piqued correctly).

To Rachel: While the kids can be pretty bad, they don't even compare to this idiot principal. In fact, the students may actually be more intelligent.

Hmmm I remember everything about middle school and the kids were just very rude to the teachers. Even the honors/advanced kids.

I'm a teaching major and teaching middle school would honestly give me nightmares. The lack of respect is something I could not put up with. Then again, this goes for kids all ages but middle school was definitely the worst.

I'm an English Education major, you are an English teacher, too IIRC, so *high5s* for us

How the f*** did he become principle?

None of the teachers have any idea. We're thinking he must be related to someone on the Board or to the former principal or something similar. The guy has no classroom teaching experience, his former job was at a detention center as a gym teacher. (My school is by no means inner city and I can count on one hand the number of 'at-risk' youths).

It's funny mentioning the principal and stuff, because I basically all but have a spot guaranteed (connections ftw) at a school that I went to just a handful of years ago. I know it's not exactly uncommon, but it still strikes me as one of those odd things.
