Always liked Willingham. Wish his bat had been cracking for the Marlins this past month. He's been going crazy ... Last night a classic 4 hit, 6 rbi game with double dongage.

Imagine if a lineup with Miguel, Hammer, Adrian Gonzalez and Hanley... four .950+ OPS guys this season. I guess that could have being depending on which trades got made or not made and I would bet no team has ever had four 950+ OPS guys and only a handful have had three.

Out of curiosity:

1929 NL Chicago Cubs 4 Rogers Hornsby / Hack Wilson / Kiki Cuyler / Riggs Stephenson

1895 NL Philadelphia Phillies 4 Billy Hamilton / Sam Thompson / Ed Delahanty / Jack Clements

1894 NL Philadelphia Phillies 4 Billy Hamilton / Ed Delahanty / Sam Thompson / Tuck Turner

EDIT: BTW, there have been 20 teams with 3 .950+ OPS guys, the most recent being the 2004 Cards with Pujols, Rolens, and Edmonds all being over 1.000.

I'll pass on the Hammer... Glad to see him doing well but I wouldnt take him back

I'd take him back instantly for what we got for him. That said, if you take him back you also have to take his back, and who knows how that's gonna hold up. I'm surprised he hasn't missed any time this season.

And people forget the $3 million or so to each of them. Things don't always work out the way you think they will but after last season a bad back and $3 mil give or take is not a risk this team was going to take. I'm thrilled for the guy and I don't look forward to seeing him 19 times a year for the next five years but life goes on.

Well, it shouldn't be five years. Has 1 or 2 arbitration years left, no? I'm not sure the Nats will resign him as an FA.

Five years was a figure of speech, I have no idea how long his career will be or be in Washington, it was figurative not literal.

Fair enough :thumbup

Well, I've heard that Rizzo really likes Hammer and might want to sign him for longer so 5 years might not be wrong.

I'd especially like Willingham back if Washington would keep Olson and take back Bonifacio!

Willingham's having a career year.

Not for the $$$$$

Willingham's having a career year.

Don't kid yourself. We all saw the beginnings of that swing in 2005.

Willingham's having a career year.

That's one hell of a career year, though.
