I think the Fish of the Game is Fredi Gonzalez, tonight. I actually agreed with pretty much every move tonight, which is rare.

Just because you agreed with the move doesn't mean it was the right move.

????

I never claimed to be the king of managing. All I said was that I agreed with pretty much every single one of his moves tonight (which is rare), thus I voted for him.

No, but you have told all of us that you could do a better job than Fredi at one time or another.

Even if we don't make the playoffs, at least we are still involved in some damn good ballgames late on in the season.

Well, that's not a fact. It's an opinion...that, quite frankly, I do believe in. Everybody believes in something that hasn't necessarily been proven as fact. I believe I can be a big league manager b/c I don't think it's a difficult job. You believe Matt Lindstrom should close. Some believe the Marlins should sign Uggla/get rid of Cantu...others think, differently.

I don't have any idea what you guys are arguing about. Fish of the Game is an opinion, obviously. Erick thought Fredi was "flawless" last night, and he thought he was the most valuable Fish of the Game. He also noted that he rarely agrees with all of Fredi's moves in a game, which he did last night. Whatever Erick has said in the past, about feeling he's capable of being a big-league manager or otherwise, has no bearing on that in any way.

It seems, more than anything, that you are trying to incite Erick. Not saying you are, but that's how it comes off.

Yeah, I don't get the argument, either.

I would love to see Erik manage a game, I think he would do pretty good. I mean how hard could it be getting the scouting reports on guys and make an educated guess? No brainer type decisions just like Fredi did last night.

If Erick was a manager the Marlins would be 162-0. First he would look at the box scores. If the starting pitcher got the loss he would say, he doesnt belong on the team, and should be in the majors. If a reliever gets a loss, he would say he would have used another pitcher that would have pitched a scoreless innings. Because he knows when and who to use in every situation to make scoreless innings. And If a batter when 0 for.. then he would have had him sit that day because he though he needed a break.

Second guessing baseball coaches. Got to love it.

Some people, like you, make it seem like a manager has more of an impact on the game than the actual players.

I'd like to see you come up with a few things that Fredi has done, that most (educated) people on this board wouldn't have done. The difference between baseball and many other sports is that games are played by the stats. If you know the stats, and know how to make educated decisions based off of them, then I don't see how there would be that big of a difference between Fredi's managerial moves and an educated fan's.

Of course, you can always just take the obvious stance and say that a fan couldn't do better than the actual manager like you are doing now, without even realizing the impact of a managers moves and how he makes his decisions.

Gonzalez shows confidence in Lindstrom

Marlins reliever gets save Saturday night despite struggles

CINCINNATI -- Perhaps Marlins reliever Matt Lindstrom didn't expect to be back on the mound in such a clutch situation so soon after a disastrous outing against St. Louis.

But there he was Saturday night, trotting in from the Florida bullpen with the game-tying run on first and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, trying to protect a 3-2 lead.

Lindstrom had allowed four runs, three walks and two hits in two-thirds of an inning against the Cardinals five days earlier. Yet Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez looked past all that, even though Lindstrom hadn't collected a save since June 21.

"It didn't even seem like I had one," Lindstrom said after the game -- and although St. Louis had torched him in that bad outing, Gonzalez's faith gave Lindstrom a boost.

"It's cool after a bad outing the other day in St. Louis and not being able to make a pitch, the confidence that Fredi showed in me by bringing me in against one of the best hitters in the league," said Lindstrom, who picked up his 15th save of the season on Saturday. "That shows me a lot, that he has confidence in me in that situation."

Lindstrom rewarded that confidence by throwing eight fastballs to Reds third baseman Scott Rolen and eventually getting him to pop out to shortstop to end the game. That, in turn, gives Lindstrom a stronger belief in himself.

"This is a game of confidence," Lindstrom said. "That's why some of the guys who aren't as gifted as others compete in this league. You have to have the confidence, and it showed a lot that he brought me into that situation."

What he said in the past about him managing has a lot to do with this. He actually thinks he is better than FG. All I said was just because he agreed with the moves, doesn't mean they were the right moves.

But for the nth time, it was his OPINION that FG was the Fish of the Game, because he thought that he made good moves, in his OPINION.

By the way, it is true that we may sometimes 2nd-guess the manager in a spot where we don't have certain information which would tell us that the stats simply do not dictate the best decision; however, if one of us were the manager, we would have that information anyway. So, I also don't see what Fredi, or any other manager can do during games that if far superior to the decision-making of an educated fan. I'm open to being enlightened, but I don't see it at the moment.
