The Marlins, who haven't had serious trade talks yet on Dan Uggla and Jeremy Hermida, are preparing a multiyear offer for Josh Johnson.

Always good to hear. When are people expecting a deal to get done with JJ, providing they do offer a big contract?

Old news, lol.

I'm guessing sometime maybe December.

Ah, for a second I though it was Nick Johnson. He'd probably be out for the season before opening day.

Why the hatred for him??? You prefer guys that K alot??

FWIW....He played in 133 games last year. So I guess he's an injury prone POS because he missed 29 games. IMO that's far better than faking an injury or illness just to help your own stats. Ask the Batting Champ how his team mates feel about that.

look at his career and I call bs on the "faking the injury" crap that you are saying, cheap shots on the guy when you arent the one with his body.

If you went to the games at the end you could see how hanley moved that he was injured.

I like Nick Johnson's game and I like his bat in the lineup. However, I don't see how someone can't recognize that he's injury prone. I think he's been on the DL almost every year since he's been in the ML.

If money were less of an issue for the Marlins and the team somehow could negotiate a reasonable, incentive-based contract, I would like to see the Marlins consider re-signing him. However, since the team has limited resources to work with already, I don't see the Marlins offering him a 2-3 year deal.

Come on Bob, you can come stronger than that. First off, are you saying he's not injury prone? He makes Mark Prior look like Cal Ripken, Jr. He has been on the disabled list 8 times in his career, with three times on the 60-day DL and has had a wrist injury (2002), fractured right hand (2003), back injury (2004), head injury (2004), heal injury (2005), broken femur (2006, out all of 2007), wrist injury (2008), and a strained right hamstring (2009). And really, a dig at the best player on our team? Come on Bob. It doesn't help your cause that he had the batting title locked up and wasn't able to play, even though he wanted to play for his own selfish, stat reasons.

How did this turn into a Nick Johnson thread?

I expect him to get around Zach Grienke numbers, which Lou has mentioned before.

Don't like the term "injury prone" without knowing the particulars behind the injuries. And quite frankly, I really don't care. Just stated a simple fact (with a tad bit of sarcasm tossed in), that he played in 133 games last season. I would love to have him back if finances could be worked out, which I doubt. But the things he can teach our guys (patience at the plate for instance) and his leadership are valuable assets that shouldn't be overlooked because of his past with other teams. Folks that do that should remember what they have said in the past about other players that we have brought in under past "injury prone" seasons with other teams.

Hanley comments? Forget the things that happened within the team this year? And that's just what was made public. Also not the only instance. Forget the last game of '08 when he was too injured to play when actually he was simply sitting out to hold his BA above .300? Come on. Defend the guy all you want, and I wouldn't want him to play for anyother team either. But don't make him out to be some kind of team first, unselfish super god with no character flaws. It's just not reality, and you know better than that.

While it might be a "fact," citing one season is completely insufficient in trying to make the claim that Johnson is not injury prone. Your argument is further weakened by the fact that during 2009, Johnson did miss a healthy portion of games.

No one here doubts that Nick Johnson is a multi-faceted player that adds much to this team, but some of us are realists and consider the financial repercussions of resigning him under a tight payroll. It is unwise for a team with a strict budget to sign a player who will likely end up spending time on the disabled list.

If Loria makes a point of saying that he aims to expand the payroll next season to accommodate Johnson's new contract, then I would strongly support his resigning.

Missing almost 20% of the season is not a positive when arguing injury proneness. That's a sizable portion. The fact that he's missed a good bit of baseball every single year since 2002 is a sign for "injury prone".

And when did I make Hanley out to be unselfish? I called him selfish in my own post Bob. Argue all you want on your point, but do NOT put words in my mouth.
