Nolasco contract

Frisaro tweets the Marlins will explore a multi year contract with Nolasco if he has a strong 10' season.

That makes me happy. Here's hoping we get a full season of the REAL Ricky Nolasco.

Wow, cool to see. I'm guessing they wouldn't get too big of a discount at that point, though? Still, it's nice to hear they are interested in locking up our most valuable pieces.

Let's see what the economy looks like by the end of this year and certainly I'm not expecting a strike but with this union you never know, those two things aside, gee a multi-year contract for Nolasco if he performs well...isn't that sort of a no-brainer as you prep opening your new stadium?

Calling MarlinsLou - estimate?

I typed something here, but then I just realized it was wrong as Nolasco is a Super 2 and we have him under control for 2012.

I'll redo this tonight as I don't have another 10 minutes to burn.

Not so sure it's a no-brainer because I don't anticipate too big of a discount; it also depends heavily on how our other arms develop. For example, if 5 of JJ, Volstad, West, Miller, Anibal, and RVH are pitching well as starters, Nolasco could become a very valuable luxury which could net an excellent package in a trade (not necessarily just prospects here (before I get shelled)).

It appears Frisaro doesn't think Nolasco is Super 2. Typo maybe?

After 2010, Nolasco will be entering his third and final season of arbitration. The Marlins have already spoken with Nolasco's agent, Matt Sosnick, who also represents Johnson, about doing a multiyear deal next offseason.

The condition is if Nolasco has another solid season, the squad would be receptive to locking up the right-hander long-term.

He could be right but:

In 2007 he was optioned to AAA at the end of August and never called back up (link: http://florida.marli...=2007&month=8). The reason for the optioning was because he ran out of time for his rehab assignment (30 days). He was down for a total of 30 days after he was optioned, which eclipses the 20 day cut off period needed for an optioning assignment to not count towards ML service time.

Think JJ Hardy this past season.

He could be right since nolasco's option happened so late in August (And most of nolasco's time not on the ML team was in September), or something to do with the fact he was coming off rehab assignemtn. I'd wait for a more definitive source than Fisario though.

Cog, maybin, hanley, jj and nolasco... A core of players we can build the team around that every team should be jealous of. Future is looking bright

Nolasco is a beast. His 2008 was amazing and he finished strong last year. I don't think much will separate him and JJ going forward.

Cot's has it at 3.142 as well. So I mean that is 4 after 2010, and 5 after 2011. The magic number is 6.

JJ Hardy is even worse, he is at 4.164 (which is 8 days to freedom, a MLB season is 172 days). He's going to miss free agency by 8 days after 2011. Nolasco is at least a month at 30 days.

I even saw a top 200 fantasy rankings for the 2010 season that had Johnson at like #97 and Nolasco at like #88

That had to be last year's. I suspect JJ will be in the 40's and Ricky 70's next fantasy.
