Posted March 2, 201015 yr alot of big name free agents. bears have a lot of holes to fill so i hope they are major players... which by the sound of it it looks like they will be. peppers or dansby would be nice. also need some safety help... oline... maybe wr and maybe rb. ugh. really need to have a good off season to go with this joke of a coaching staff
March 2, 201015 yr Supposedly Michael Vick would like to play for the Carolina Panthers. Could be interesting if he did go there with the 2 big rivalry games against the Falcons every year.
March 2, 201015 yr Dansby is ours, only other team I believe we are contending with is the Giants. Whichever one of us doesn't get Dansby is going to get McClain in the draft. And no Miller, the Dolphins haven't even expressed interest yet in Antonio Bryant.  If we can get Dansby in free agency, and get Dez Bryant in the draft (I don't read too much into the character issue questions), then I'll be happy.
March 2, 201015 yr I would like the Jets to sign/draft Cromartie a CB, a WR, and a pass rusher (DE?) and maybe add some depth at linebacker and safety. They can't really change the personnel on the O-Line or at QB; the former is too good and the latter is your starter, for better or for worse. I suppose they can sign a 3rd-string RB like Chester Taylor, but whatever, that won't likely have too big of an impact.
March 2, 201015 yr If we could somehow get Dansby and McClain, we would go from one of the worst 3-4 ILB combinations to one of the best. I wouldn't be that happy if we wasted our first-round pick on a WR.
March 3, 201015 yr Mccalin, imo, isn't worth the 12 pick. Dez Bryant is, but his character issues will keep us from drafting him. Also Dim, I know Miami hasn't expressed interest, but I still believe he is on our radar. Parcells and Bryant are close, and Bryant is the number one receiver we need.
March 3, 201015 yr Author instead of the bears spending all their cash on peppers id rather see rolle kampman and chester taylor... then trade olsen for a 2 then flip that for marshall, even tho hes an idiot. thatd be a good offseason... mixed with 54 coming back... would be fun.
March 4, 201015 yr Marshall received a 1st round tender today. Â Elvis Dumervil received a 1st and 3rd round tender.
March 4, 201015 yr Yea Marshall isn't going for a second. Also, Dolphins opt out of Ronnie's contract and received a first round tender.
March 4, 201015 yr Author will be interesting to see if someone with a late 1st round pick will use it on marshall. will balt? doesnt seem to be their style. new england? i dont know if anyone will bite... but what do i know. looks like arizona wants a 3rd for boldin..

March 4, 201015 yr Breaking News! Karlos Dansby is scheduled to fly to Miami and land around 10 PM.  Whether this is simply because he likes it in Miami, or more likely, because he plans on working on a deal when free agency begins, we don't know yet. However, the timing seems to indicate that the two sides may have a deal done in the late hours of Thursday Night/Friday Morning.
March 5, 201015 yr Call it the changing of the linebackers. Joey Porter is on his way out the door, and free agent Karlos Dansby apparently is on his way in. The Miami Dolphins are expected to announce Porter's release Friday, which will save the team $9.5 million over the next two seasons. An NFL source says plenty of that savings will be offered to Dansby, who is expected to board a private jet at 10 p.m. Pacific time bound for Miami. Dansby will be in South Florida to work out the details of a lucrative, multiyear contract that the Dolphins hope will end the linebacker's brief free agency. The NFL's free agent signing period begins at midnight. Dansby, a six-year starter for the Arizona Cardinals, is pursuing a contract that will trump the five-year, $40 million deal the New York Jets gave Bart Scott last season. The Dolphins are also pursuing Dansby's teammate in Arizona, former University of Miami standout Antrel Rolle. According to another source, the Dolphins offered Rolle a five-year contract Thursday evening, shortly after the Cardinals released him to avoid paying a $4 million roster bonus. However, the Dolphins' offer was under the $8 million per year Rolle is seeking. The New York Giants are expected to offer that much when Rolle visits Friday morning. Also in the hunt for Rolle's services are the Chicago Bears and Cardinals, but the Dolphins' offer will remain on the table. Dansby earned $9.678 million last season and is coming off his second straight 100-plus tackles season. He has spent the past two years as the every-down inside linebacker in Arizona's 3-4 scheme. He could unseat Channing Crowder for that role with the Dolphins. If that's the case, Crowder would either compete with Akin Ayodele for the other inside linebacker spot, or inherit it when/if Ayodele is cut. The Dolphins owe Ayodele, who finished third on the team with 71 tackles last season, $500,000 in a roster bonus due April 1 and a $3.25 million base salary. It's possible that Ayodele could be asked to restructure his deal or the Dolphins could release him and/or backup Reggie Torbor to clear more cap space. Torbor is slated to make $3.15 million a year for the next two seasons. Because the NFL is entering a new Collective Bargaining Agreement that doesn't feature a salary cap there is no penalty for releasing players whose salaries don't match their production, which explains Porter's release. Considering Dansby has also produced 25.5 sacks and corralled 10 interceptions throughout his six seasons, there's also a possibility the 28-year-old could be used as an outside linebacker. With Porter on his way out, and Jason Taylor hitting the open market as an unrestricted free agent, the Dolphins presently have two vacancies in its starting linebacker unit. Considering the Giants are pursuing Rolle, the Redskins are expected to make the strongest run at Dansby. But at the top of Washington's wish list is defensive end Julius Peppers, who will be the most sought after unrestricted free agent. Peppers' landing spot is the domino that could affect every team's free agency plans, including those of the Dolphins. A last-minute offer can always redirect a private plane. -Sun Sentinel
March 5, 201015 yr I read a report that he actually didnt fly to miami last night. They are saying the Cards, Giants and Dolphins are in the mix for Dansby.  $30 million is a lot, but does it really matter if there is no cap?
March 5, 201015 yr Jets trade a conditional 2011 pick for CB Antonio Cromartie  Very good deal, IMO. Now we need a pass rusher and slot receiver, and we'll be a much improved team. I hope Rhodes is better next year, too.
March 5, 201015 yr Gibril Wilson released, Antrel Rolle to Miami? The Gibril Wilson Experiment with the Miami Dolphins is over. According to the Twitter account of Wilson’s agent, Alvin Keels, the Dolphins “will be releasingâ€ their starting free safety today after just one season in South Florida. (My Twitter account, by the way, is here.) This probably shouldn’t come as a shocker considering the fact the Dolphins offered a five-year contract in the range of $30 million to $35 million, according to an NFL source, to Arizona free agent Antrel Rolle, a former University of Miami star. Talks were ongoing between the Dolphins and Rolle’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, as of early Friday afternoon. There’s still a general sense the Giants are way ahead in the money column, but there’s no state income tax in Florida and Rolle has made it clear how much he’d love to come back home. Should the Dolphins fall short in their pursuit of Rolle, who is visiting the Giants today, they could turn their attention to Pittsburgh Steelers free agent Ryan Clark. Clark has received initial interest from seven teams, according to his agent, Joel Turner, but Turner would not say if the Dolphins were one of those teams. Another name to keep in mind is Gerald Sensabaugh of Dallas. The Cowboys tendered Sensabaugh, a restricted free agent, at the second-round level for $1.8 million and hope to retain him. However, the Dolphins were in advanced negotiations a little over a year ago with Sensabaugh when he was an unrestricted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars. â€œIt looked like a done deal,â€ an NFL source said. A question over a minor traffic violation and the unexpected availability of Wilson on the open market ended those talks, with Sensabaugh landing instead in Dallas on a one-year deal. The top in-house options include veteran Tyrone Culver, a key member of the Dolphins’ dime package the past two years, and second-year man Chris Clemons, a speedy fifth-round pick out of Clemson. Clemons took some snaps away from Wilson during the second half of last season, starting ahead of him twice: at the Jets in Game 7 and against the Steelers in the season finale. Just eight days ago in Indianapolis, Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland went out of his way to defend Wilson, whose struggles in pass coverage, especially early last season, made him the target of fan unrest. â€œI think he took a lot of the rap back there,â€ Ireland said at the NFL Scouting Combine. “He’s playing a position with two young corners. A lot of things that you would try to blame on him, maybe the media or the fans were trying to blame [on] him, those weren’t always his fault.â€ Wilson finished second on the team in tackles (91) after signing a five-year, $27.5 million contract last Feb. 26, but he struggled badly in pass coverage with his third team in as many years. Those problems limiting big pass plays for opponents led the Dolphins to replace defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni with Mike Nolan. Now, it appears Wilson is headed out the door as well as the Dolphins take advantage of the first NFL year without a salary cap since 1993. Releasing Wilson under the prior rules would have caused a tremendous cap hit as the entire signing bonus would have accelerated onto the 2010 ledger rather than be spread out over the full five seasons of the deal. Of course, Ireland tried to mask those intentions as long as he could as he almost certainly was trying to trade Wilson right up until the start of the new NFL year at 12:01 a.m. Friday. â€œ[W]e have our evaluation of Gibril Wilson,â€ Ireland said in Indy. “We know what kind of player he’s capable of being. I think he’s going to be a very good player for the future. He’s disappointed in his play last year. He will tell you that. I think he can play better. We’ll just have to see. I think he will.â€ The Dolphins signed Wilson on Feb. 26, 2009, just six days after the Oakland Raiders released him after just one season. Now, at age 28, the former Super Bowl champion with the 2007 New York Giants will be looking for his fourth different employer in as many seasons. Perhaps the lasting image of his 2009 campaign was the sight of Wilson playing “patty cakeâ€ with Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey as Shockey lumbered down the sideline on a 66-yard pass play in the fourth quarter of Game 6. Only five NFL safeties played more snaps than Wilson in 2009 without an interception. Wilson nearly had an interception in Week 2, a Monday night loss to the Colts, but replay review overturned the apparent pick and the Colts went down to kick a field goal right before halftime in a 27-23 win. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_football_dolphins/2010/03/agent-miami-dolphins-to-release-gibril-wilson.html

I hope Rhodes is better next year, too. I wonder if they are going to go after anyone else? ESPN insider said the Jets were looking to make a move on Brandon Marshall. It would cost a first rounder plus whatever they signed him for. The only problem with that is that then Braylon Edwards would probably want a similar deal. Imagine Marshall, Edwards and Cothery as the top 3 WRs?
