St, Claire's 1st fix

Featured Replies

Plenty here have been skeptical about the hiring of Randy St. Claire, myself included. Apparently he has already made a difference in Leo Nunez. Nunez was having a terrible spring but had a nice outing today tossing two scoreless after St. Claire noticed he was tipping pitches. Here's the article I'm referencing.

1. Was this happening last year, too?

2. This is a bit premature to say there's a drastic difference now, just because he tossed 2 scoreless innings in a Spring Training game.

If he was tipping his pitches, then kudos to St. Claire for noticing it before the season started.

On the downside, I expect all teams to be looking for it now.

But, if he can really eliminate it, then it doesn't matter, and looking for it may distract opposing hitters. Also, if he gets really good at it, he can throw a reverse tell, pretending to tip a changeup when he's actually coming with the hard stuff i.e.

The guy who is as important this season as St. Claire is *(Zephyr's pitching coach)* Scott Mitchell who will be entrusted with a number of the quality arms the Marlins are going to need later on, guys like West and Miller and Tankersley, Buente, Mobley, Hunter Jones etc.

Mitchell got a lot of productivity out of his staff last season, especially the second half and he's the guy who got Hensley's career back on track after the Padres and Houston gave up on him. Let's hope he can do it again.

No sorry, I meant to say that he had a nice outing and hopefully it had something to do with him not tpping his pitches and that it would continue. I definetely am not jumping to conclusions but am hopeful that this will be helpful for Nunez.

If Leo can be a dominant closer like the way he looked when he waso n last year that would be huge for this team and i'd say we'd be one of the top picks for a wild card spot. We just can't have a revlolving door at closer again.

You said it just fine the first time. No need to apologize to the petty sniping that shows up too often on these threads.

I hope Nunez can put it together too, but like others on here, I'm still skeptical.
