But I guess the Phillies are happy with what he's done, and there's no point in gambling by getting another first baseman, like Adrian Gonzales.
April 27, 201016 yr Anyone else thought that Uggla will be licking his chops at this Howard deal? I am by no way claiming that Uggla is as valuable an asset as Howard and obviously Uggla's next deal will be nowhere near the salary in this deal, however the fact that a 30 year old (same as Dan) has just received such a large, long term contract should provide at least some element of comparison next year when Uggla is pursuing a contract.

For example, they may now have difficulty resigning Jayson Werth.

Also the fact that this might give them problems locking up some great talent in the future along with the fact that Howard might break down in a few years.
