May 10, 201016 yr Every offseason it's the same crap about how "we're trying to improve, defensively." It's crap. This defense is still the laughing stock of MLB in terms of defenses...get it fixed, already. /rant What do you think is going to happen when you have inexperience young players? For the most part, this team is no longer inexperienced. It's just a bad defensive team. Our three worst defensive players this year have been Gaby, Maybin, and Coghlan. Gaby is a rookie, Maybin is basically a rookie, and Coghlan is in his first full season playing a position that he had never played before the middle of last season. I think you can blame inexperience for the time being. Yes they are all young but you have to remember these guys aren't 12 and 13 they are grown men that get paid to play the game for a reason. The errors that are made are on fundamental plays witch there is no excuse for. Yes, some of the errors are from bad decision witch is were inexperience from being a Major League Player comes in hand. But when you throwing errors and dropping balls that should be caught is fundamentals and those plays should be made. Most of the errors committed by all three have been mental, not physical errors (i.e. Maybin taking bad routes, Gaby not stretching, Coghlan misplaying balls off the wall, etc.) With more experience always comes a decrease in mental errors, so we should expect to see better defense as the season progresses. If the same thing is still happening in 2011, then we should maybe start to worry.

Which is another example of how experience decreases mental errors.

Disappeared? More like transformed into "He dosen't play defense very well." But I will write off that missed pop up as a rookie mistake, as in not really knowing the winds at Wrigley. I'm feeling generous this morning.
May 11, 201016 yr Yeh that was pretty bad not catching that pop-up that ball should have been Ugglas ball not his. he did the right thing by calling it at the beginning and when the wind took it to the right Uggla should have call him off. I'm feeling generous this morning. not calling BroncoBob27 and A!! I think your constant bashing of Gaby is getting really old.

How many of your 312 posts haven't been directly [or at least indirectly] about Gaby? Over/Under 7?
May 11, 201016 yr Its easy to blame that pop-up on Gaby and it likely was at least partially his fault, but Gaby would not have called for a ball that was clearly the second baseman's if the second baseman had actually called for it himself.
May 11, 201016 yr Author I didn't see the pop up. I have noticed Uggla look shaky on a lot of groundballs lately, though.

Hope that is not directed at me as I haven't really bashed Gaby at all this year
May 11, 201016 yr lol as soon as I saw the ball pop up I went into the kitchen to get something to drink, and then I heard from quite a distance away Tommy Hutton spazzing out - then I lol'd because I knew more or less what had happened. And that's my story.
May 11, 201016 yr That pop-up wasn't Gaby's fault but as soon as it happened I knew that BroncoBob would try to pin it on him. Seriously, your act is really starting to turn a lot of people off here. The wind was blowing in from right field almost all night, causing the ball to tail away from him (toward shortstop/3B). The Chicago crew (Len and Bob Brenly) even said it wasn't Gaby's fault and that the middle infielders should have called for it.
