Haddaway
(part of the article) Johnson ranks fifth among all MLB starters with a 2.66 FIP, just six-hundredths of a point behind Jimenez and only about a half run higher than his actual ERA (unlike Ubaldo, who's FIP is more than one and a half points higher than his ERA). Johnson's K/9 and K/BB are superior to Ubaldo's, and Johnson gets to pitch half his games in pitcher-friendly venue, as opposed to Coors Field which, by most measures, is still the friendliest offensive environment in baseball. Let the debate begin. Who would you rather own for the rest of the season? Ubaldo Jimenez or Josh Johnson? http://fantasybaseball.fanhouse.com/2010/06/04/roto-rush-josh-johnson-a-better-bet-than-ubaldo/

MarlinsFan7
I would rather have Jimenez. His stuff is probably the nastiest in the majors right now. You can't go wrong with either one though.

It's designed to take the team's fielding out of the equation and what is supposed to remain is what a pitcher is directly responsible for. It's sexist of me to hold women to a different standard, but it's just so uneblievably awesome that you know what this is. Not only that, but you took the time and have the patience to educate. I should really hire you to tutor my fiancee and have some of your baseball passion rub off on her, because I don't know how to do that and you're awesome. poptart
I would rather have Jimenez. His stuff is probably the nastiest in the majors right now. You can't go wrong with either one though. Buster Olney tweeted earlier this week: "Jimenez's fastball averaged nine inches of horizontal movement on Monday, six inches of vertical movement. And he's throwing 97-100 mph." his stuff is DISGUSTING right now.

It's pretty much why ctina has been one of my favorite posters here for a while. Regarding the topic of the thread, whoever wrote that is wrong to call Sun Life a "pitcher friendly environment". The multi-year park factor is 102-101 (slightly favors hitters) and the one year is 105-105, which favors hitters even more. Compared to Coors which has a one year of 109-109 and a multi-year of 113-112, sure it is, but you could say that about every other park in the league. Erick
I don't care how great the stuff is, it's almost impossible for Jimenez to keep up his current #'s. They are insane. He's also, historically, had control issues, although he's improved his BB rate this year. But the sample is pretty short, compared to his career #'s. Josh Johnson has been the better pitcher, if you compare their career numbers, and we all know JJ's stuff is pretty nasty, as well. Basically, I'll take JJ because I highly doubt Ubaldo's ERA remains under 2, much less under 1, all year. This coming from a guy with Ubaldo Jimenez on his fantasy team, so I actually hope Ubaldo keeps up at this pace.

Ubaldo's going to regress eventually, he's just been too lucky and there's no way it's going to hold up. His opponent's BABIP in hitter's heaven is .228. JJ on the other hand is probably going to stay around where he's been. I would be surprised if Jimenez's ERA from now until the season ends ends up lower than JJ's.
