A couple of questions regarding minor leaguers.

How long is Ryan Tucker being suspended for? I know he had a run in with an ump, but I didn't hear anything along the lines of throwing a bat him or anything else like that.

Also when will Kyle Kaminska and Isaac Galloway come off the DL for Jupiter?

I want to see Jupiter play a few times this summer, but not much to look at with Marinez up and Galloway DL'ed

IM pretty sure he wasnt suspended for long and I wouldn't waste your time with jupiter unless someone like Hand is pitching and they are facing a good team. Galloway is really not good at all and ive never quite gotten the obsession over him as a prospect when all he has is tools but cant put them together at any level.

You mean like pretty much every other position prospect the Marlins draft? It would be nice to see the Marlins actually draft guys who were good at baseball. Our system is stocked with guys who are incredibly athletic but couldn't hit .300 off a tee.

not really true at all but continue your blind hate

Actually, it is true. The Marlins for the last several years have drafted in a way where they wont have to spend money. They pass on people with established baseball track records to draft football players or old college players who will sign for next to nothing. They only drafted 10 prep players this year, and 4 of them were in the last 10 picks-players not likely to sign-and that is beyond pathetic. You have to take a chance on young players, even though they might cost a little more, or your system will become what the Marlins currently is...there are 1 to 4 legitimate prospects and not much after that.

No, the Marlins dont have one of the better farm systems out there. Not even close. With Stanton now up and Morrison to be soon, the system is pretty bare. There are no arms with significant upside, the only other position player of note is Dominguez, and overall they are pretty thin at many positions(especially catcher).

yes, the marlins still do have one of the better farms all the way through except jupiter.

At catcher they have Skipworth who is still young and improving.

At 1b they have morrison who is great and will be making an impact.

they dont really have many 2b besides smolinski who isnt having a great year but is a former 2nd rounder who is still young.

3b they have dominguez who can be similar to zimmerman imo.

OF they have cousins and peterson but they really dont need many outfielders with stanton, cogs, maybin, Carroll, Cody.

And they have a lot of pitching actually, granted not many sp's that will be ready soon. Hand and Sanabia are pretty solid prospects as well as a few who dont really have the greatest stuff but who have been putting up numbers everywhere they'v e been. Not to mention we have a huge amount of potential relief prospects like Tucker, Vandenhurk, Marinez, Ceda, Leroux, Jennings.

So yes, the marlins have many positions covered and most definitely have pitching depth. take a look at some other teams farm systems like the mets for example. The marlins still have a top 10-15 farm.

Also these are just the rankings of our farm system by some sites

Fanhouse- 7

Keith Law- 12

i dont even feel like bothering to find anymore because you are just oging to find some excuse to discount these as false regardless.

Ok, now take Stanton and Morrison out of the system and where do you think its ranked, as one is with the parent club and the other will be soon.

Skipworth is young and improving but has yet to really impress even at Greensboro.

There are no top of the line arms. An abundance of potential relievers wont boost a systems overall credibility.

Dominguez dropped out of Baseball America's top 100 before the year and didnt hit a lick this year until June rolled around(I am a Dominguez fan btw, he was promoted too fast however..should of spent all of last year in Jupiter).

The system is overall pretty bare. Cousins and Petersen are nothing special as prospects, especially Cousins. Both are bench bats.

Depending on where Morrison starts next year, the farm system could sink like a rock in the rankings(if he is with the Marlins, the system will be ranked low).

It's always great to debate about past drafts. Because we all know the MLB draft isn't based on luck or anything. It's totally like the NBA draft and NFL draft, where the players you get immediately go/play for the team.

Arguing about the MLB draft is so pointless. You never know how players are going to pan out when you draft them. The best player in baseball right now was taken in the 13th round. All this talk about going cheap in the 1st round and how we're thin on SP, our best pitcher who just so happens to be one of the best in baseball was taken in the 4th round.

It's a pointless debate, and it's also pointless because people love to say that the Marlins have been horrible at drafting, when that hasn't really been the case. But whatever.

There are consequences with drafting cheap. The Marlins rarely take prep players any longer, and when they do they are usually toolsy outfielders with little upside. They draft for cheapness, not quality, the last few years. On top of that they routinely refuse to offer players arbitration which could of netted them more picks.

Okay, here's how I win this argument.

Let's just take all the top specs out and then obviously they can't be as good!

Way to oversimplify things. If you take Stanton and Morrison out of the farm system, which they both will be soon, you are left with an incredibly thin farm system.

Your main debate with this whole thing is the fact the team took Chad James over Shelby Miller. According to you and "the scouts," Shelby Miller was a top 10 pick, yet 17 teams not named the Florida Marlins passed up on him, as well. How do you know the decision wasn't just based on the fact that the Marlins might've liked James more? As of right now, they both pretty much project as future top prospects. You're making a big deal about nothing.

The same can be said for a lot of teams, once their top prospects are called up.

Bingo bango.

So basically his argument is take out 2 possible future all stars out and we dont have a deep system? no sh*t sherlock. but with those 2 leaving and a new draft and others stepping up, you get new top prospects.

Teams alot of the time promote their top prospects because they have good depth. The Marlins have no depth.

did you not see my post where i labled depth at almost every position and almost every level.

I'm not even sure what you're trying to say, here. I understand it, but it makes no sense. Teams promote their top prospects when they're performing to a level where they deserve the promotion. Other things like Super 2 status, etc. play a part in the decision. It's as if you're saying that the Marlins shouldn't have promoted Mike Stanton since they don't have another prospect that comes close to him in the minor leagues. And apparently the Marlins have enough depth anyway, to send down Cameron Maybin who was once a top 10 prospect in all of baseball/still is a prospect, despite some opinions on here. Maybin's still younger than some of the top prospects who are being called up this month.

There are consequences with drafting cheap. The Marlins rarely take prep players any longer, and when they do they are usually toolsy outfielders with little upside. They draft for cheapness, not quality, the last few years. On top of that they routinely refuse to offer players arbitration which could of netted them more picks.

the marlins have drafted prep players the last 4 years in the first round. then in 06 they went for sinkbeil and then in 05 we took 2 of 3 prep playrs in the actual first round.

stfu and stop making things up.

It's very erroneous to say the Marlins have nothing as prospects once you take out Stanton and Morrison, which I will for the hell of it. And it's pretty tough when Maybin, West, Stanton, Morrison, G. Sanchez, and Coghlan have all graduated in less than 1 year. And they have high potential arms like Miller and Vanden Hurk around just to see if they ever want to throw strikes. Kind of takes the punch out of anything. That is a ridiculous amount of talent.

Dominguez is a very good prospect.

Marinez, is a very good prospect.

Brad Hand and Chad James, are on the verge of becoming very good, if not great, prospects.

The team added Yishek, who by all accounts was one of the top left handed bats in the draft, and a progressed college lefty in Rasmussen.

Ceda is finally back from injury, and throwing 95. Could be a very significant impact.

Sanabia may be turning into an impact prospect

That's 8 guys right there that immediately pass any laugh test.

There are also some high potential bats, even if struggling, with Skipworth and Smolinski who are very young. These aren't speedster toolsters, like Cooper, who I agree they draft way to many of. These are legit prospects that are on the slow road to see if they turn into something. These are real assets, not just filler.

More secondary guys, there are a ton of high impact arms, like Tucker, Cishek, Parcell, Andre, Jennings, etc, that all profile are potential plus relievers. Most organizations don't have this depth. All these guys are better than "Wood/Buente," who are the typical call ups of organizations. Given time, these guys could develop. Also, Leroux is a cut above the normal RP prospects and he was not included on the graduation list.

We're around 15 probable MLB players at some point already.

And then there is a solid dozen third tier guys, like Cousins, Osvaldo, Koehler, Olmos, Ozuna, etc, who do display tool sets to turn into legitimate players. More than organizational filler here. There's some good stuff with adequate MLB potential lurking at the back end of the top 25 prospects.

Overall, even without Morrison and Stanton (which is again, enormous), you probably have to look at the Marlins as a 15-20 farm system in baseball. Pretty average. Certainly not great, but not bad by any means, and again, the team has just graduated three top 25 prospects, 2-3 more top 100ish prospects, and other solid organizational types like Gaby. You can't fault them if all of them were on the same time table, and some moved faster than others. All of those guys were acquired between the 2005-2007 seasons. How about give the other guys some time to see what they do? Most guys don't spend 2 1/2 years in the minors like Stanton. Most spend 5.

---

I understand the Marlins striving for guys on slot, but James was not a reach over Shelby. Both were similarly ranked at the draft even if Miller was a few spots ahead. And like said, they do draft to many "Juan Pierres," although getting a guy like Galloway, even if he stinks, where they got him was a great draft pick. But this criticism is ridiculous. Morrison was like a 25th round pick. Stanton was a 2. The return they get on the draft, even if they blow Sinkbeil here and there, is still enormous.

This isn't that big of a deal. There is talent here. There are quite more than 1-4 real prospects in the system

Don't even try to argue with Spike about Shelby Miller. He's declared the last two drafts a failure before the drafts have even ended.

Chad James is just as good of a prospect as Shelby Miller. Miller asked for top 10 money, no team wants to pay that kind of money to a mid 15 caliber talent at 19 iirc. James was and still is the right choice at that slot. Get over it.

No, James is not as good of a prospect as Miller. And its alot like you with Mike Minor, a guy who is 22 years old already and strugga-ling. And you are the only one who thinks Miller wasnt a talent, you also made up lies about his scouting report(i.e. you constantly saying he has no control on his pitches, even though there is no written evidence of that anywhere, and he is showing much better control than James at this point).

That said, Lou said what I was thinking but said it better than me. The organization has some prospects, but no real top prospects after Morrison and Stanton and pretty barren in some instances.

Teams alot of the time promote their top prospects because they have good depth. The Marlins have no depth.

did you not see my post where i labled depth at almost every position and almost every level.

You gave Petersen and Cousins as examples, and neither one is all that good. So in other words, you were just wrong.
