Dan Uggla 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs so far today is giving the Infante voters in Atlanta a nice f*** You.

Infante getting in had nothing to do with Atlanta, it was Charlie Manuel.

All I can say is Wow.

He picked Infante over Votto, Willingham and Uggla? :banghead

First base is a stacked position offensively, so there are going to be a lot of people with good numbers. You can't field a team of just first basemen, which means you need to choose the best one or two as reserves:

Votto: .313/.414/.574/.988 (19 HR, 57 RBI)

Adrian: .295/.390/.524/.914 (16 HR, 51 RBI)

Are Adrian's numbers ASG worthy? Probably, but he shouldn't be there over Votto.

Over Ryan Howard? Maybe, but Manuel would never do that.

After looking at it some more, I think Manuel did a terrible job this year for the NL.

I think versatility is overrated for an all-star game. Especially one that has a DH.

Things I would have done:

No Bourn/Infante (Uggla over Infante).

No Lincecum (put Oswalt instead of Bourn for the Astros representative)

No Capps (Heath Bell instead) and use Willingham as the Nationals representative.

Votto over Adrien Gonzalez.

No Matt Holliday.

I think if you make those changes, you still have a balanced roster and all teams will be represented.

Gallardo hurt himself today, so I imagine there will be a replacement for him on the roster. Maybe Jaime Garcia?

Note that Manuel didn't pick the entire team. The starters are picked by the fans and the reserves are picked by the players. I believe the manager only picks about four of five guys. That's it. Bourn is there probably to pinch run late in the game. Given that the game means something I have no problem with that. I don't think the manager should necessarily use his picks picking guys incorrectly left off by the fans and players.

That's true. I forgot about that. How many are actually picked by players?

I still don't see the justification for Bourn. Is a pinch runner going to be that important? While maybe not quite as fast, why not just use someone like Chris Young?

It's a shame that such terrible offensive production is being rewarded.

NL Player Ballot position players include Prado and catcher Brian McCann of the Braves; first baseman Adrian Gonzalez of the Padres, shortstops Troy Tulowitzki of the Rockies; third baseman Scott Rolen of the Reds; and outfielders Corey Hart of the Brewers, Matt Holliday of the Cardinals and Marlon Byrd of the Cubs. Because Tulowitzki is on the DL and unavailable, he was replaced on the roster by Reyes, who was the next highest vote-getter among shortstops on the Player Ballot.

NL Player Ballot pitchers include starting pitchers Ubaldo Jimenez of the Rockies, Roy Halladay of the Phillies, Josh Johnson of the Marlins, Tim Lincecum of the Giants and Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals; along with relievers Matt Capps of the Nationals, Brian Wilson of the Giants and Jonathan Broxton of the Dodgers.

Still Infante is a waste of a pick, just pick one guy who can play all 3 outfield positions that's solid like Werth, Rasmus, Chris Young, Marlon Byrd and then an infielder that could play 2 or 3 infield positions like Prado and deal.

I mean there's no need to have Infante when the Game is being played under AL Rules with a DH.

So how does player ballot work in conjunction with the managerial picks? If you strictly adhere to the player ballot, I could imagine it would be difficult to get represenatives for all of the teams and have a balanced roster.

The manager has to use his picks to make sure at least each team has one representative. My guess is Bourn is the only Astro but not sure.

You've got to be kidding me. Infante is batting .311, and only .343 OBP!!! The average of course is good, but clearly he is not that much better in his at bats. Uggla is batting like .265 and his OBP is higher than Infante's!! .356!

Horrible.

And would anyone like to tell me how Yadier Molina is starting catching? I mean... McCann is hands down better. And for the homer pick... Ronnie's been batting .300 all year.

And Heyward. What a joke.

Heyward doesn't deserve to start, but it's certainly not a joke by All-Star Game voting standards. I mean, if Heyward's a joke, Braun's a joke, too. Braun would actually be the bigger joke, if anything.

Hanley and JJ each had a 50K All-Star bonus kick in according to mlbtraderumors.com. For all that matters, Yadier Molina was awarded 50K for his selection, too.

You forgot about Miguel Olivo.

.307/.363/.538 with 11 HR 39 RBI 37 R.

He's the obvious choice for starting catcher but fan voting sucks ass.

I honestly would be for a fan voting that starts a month before the ASG and lets fans only vote for the top 5 players stat wise for there respective positions so the rightful players can hopefully earn there spots in the game.

Gallardo wont be pitching in the AS game so maybe Latos takes his spot.

Thank God.

It's a shame not one San Diego pitcher originally made the team.

Bell and Latos are more then deserving and you can throw in a Luke Gregorson or Mike Adams to the mix of relievers.

Part of the problem with the selection process is that voting began weeks ago and weeks ago Heyward was deserving but then he slumped. If you voted in early June when he was OPSing almost 1.000 how were you supposed to know he would slump right after you voted for him.

... deserving? Yeah, he was much better, but no, he was not a clear cut to make the team. There were several outfielders who were 'deserving'. Heyward only got the nod because of the fact that he was so spoken up going into the season, the Atlanta Masiah. He started off the season HOT as well. But by the beginning of June he was hardly a clear cut.

And definitely on the Olivo thing... but Yadier is just sad.

It's a joke, period. His numbers are nothing better than average.

That's not true. And, as I said, he's not even the biggest joke in the outfield; it's Braun.

Beginning of June, Heyward pretty much had the best .OPS among NL outfielders. He was definitely deserving then. He then went on to have a horrible month-long slump in June, however.

If his name wasn't Tim Lincecum, Latos would've made it over Lincecum. He made it on pure reputation.

Latos and Bell definitely deserved to make the team.

Votto, however, SHOULD win the final player slot.

.OPS isnt as important as just looking at OBP and slugging separately. Im not saying he wasnt all-star material, but he was not worthy of starting at that point. He drew off hype.
