July 31, 201015 yr at least he seems better than Tank's Not really. I don't know why people hate Tankersley around here. lol
July 31, 201015 yr The Marlins have been in the mix for Will Ohman for the last 2 years. He's consistent, experienced, and will fit perfectly into that 7th-8th inning role. I don't expect us to have given up something that big, so very nice trade. Are you kidding me? Ohman is mediocre at best. He has a 1.60 WHIP this season. It's a miracle his ERA is this low. He doesn't improve the team. I'd rather have Vanden Hurk, despite his struggles. Ohman is definitely a Beinfest player, though. Easily the worst phrase you use in your posts. I STILL don't know what makes someone a Beinfest player or not. I just know that Hanley Ramirez - Not a Beinfest Player. It refers to players to mediocre players that Beinfest fancies for some unknown reason and has a history of showing interest in them, or starting them when they do poorly. Abercrombie, Olivo, Bonifacio, Julio, Veras etc. I don't see what's wrong with the term. It doesn't imply that Beinfest only trades for bad players, but merely addresses the habit he sometimes has to overvalue certain types of players. What's the problem? I don't think I coined the term, either. Someone else did who doesn't post here anymore.
July 31, 201015 yr LOL @ a spectacular season. K/BB under 2. Not impressed. And he's an FA after the season. I'm not a fan of this. Why are all of you looking at his overall statistics? Look at his splits. He's effective against lefties; righties mash him. Taylor Tankersley Version 2.0. At least be fair.
July 31, 201015 yr Marlins acquired LHP Will Ohman from the Orioles for RHP Rick Vandenhurk. Ohman has turned himself into a valuable LOOGY, allowing an 87 OPS+ to left-handed batters but a 149 OPS+ to right-handed hitters. He has a 3.30 ERA over 51 appearances, but that number is inflated by a few terrible outings. Ohman will help set up Leo Nunez in taking his talents to South Beach. Per RotoWorld
July 31, 201015 yr at least he seems better than Tank's Not really. I don't know why people hate Tankersley around here. in the infinite wisdom of our managers (both fredi and edwin), they continue to use tanks against righties as well as lefties, and he promptly gets smashed... Tanks is just fine against lefties
July 31, 201015 yr BTW, for those saying "only a good first two months", he's had 20 outings giving up 0 runs, and 4 outings giving up earned runs (8 ER's vs Red Sox and Blue Jays) since June.
July 31, 201015 yr Screw it. Optimism is a lot better than everybody else taking a giant dump on this trade. It's really not a bad trade. We aren't going to be looking back in 3-5 years saying "damn, if only we kept VandenHurk". I don't think we're going to be looking back saying "Ohman was the piece we needed to get to the playoffs", but it's a confidence boost to the rest of the team that we haven't thrown in the towel on the season. 1.600 WHIP

Are you really going to call a guy like Jose Veras a "Beinfest player?" A guy who was picked up for nothing in hopes he'd do something productive? Every GM makes that kind of move every offseason.
July 31, 201015 yr It's not that Vanden Hurk is going to turn into something spectacular. The concern is that Ohman is a rental and a pretty mediocre one at best. I'd rather have Robertson in the pen. Why bother trading away arms to get someone pretty bad who will be here for two months? Exactly how I feel. I don't think RVH will be anything above average, as he has a massive, MASSIVE HR problem and doesn't have the K/BB or other things to offset it. But Will Ohman is not very good (He's fine as a LOOGY, but being a LOOGY is proof you aren't good), and he's only here for a couple of months. It's not that I think RVH will be good, but RVH for 5 seasons will bring more value than Will Ohman for two months. If he was signed to a two year contract or something maybe, but this as is is meh.
