Whoever said it's 'not cool' to like the Killers... that's a shocker to me. Unless they just listened to "Human" or looked at Brandon Flowers name...

Now apparently it's uncool to like Coldplay. To which I say...

shame on anybody who is embarassed to admit their musical taste. You're nothing but a mindless sheep if you let someone else tell you what to like or influence your musical tastes.

Yeah, I like Coldplay. I like U2. I like the Red Hot Chili Peppers(that totally makes me cool). I enjoy some of the Beatles. I can listen to Lady Gaga. I like Bruce Springsteen. Ugh, I'm sorry for ranting here but I just cant stand when people do that. Music is an art and an identity, and everybody is different.

(and I'm not calling you out Dodge, just to make that clear)

All These Things That I've Done - The Killers

In particular - "I got soul but I'm not a soldier"

I hear it's not "cool" to like the Killers but I love them. That's a really great song.

Must be an American thing as over here they are widely regarded as one of the best modern bands on the go. For example Mr Brightside was voted song of the decade by a few radio stations in the UK.

As long as you don't listen to Nickelback, then we're cool. :)

^^^ I like Nickelback. Whatcha gonna do huh?

Them's fighin words.....

Come to Florida and we'll settle this like men......

Nickelback. Eh. I think they're awfully annoying... but I also think there's an unfair bias towards them.

Modern day AC/DC if you ask me. Everything sounds the same.

If they keep selling records and having successful tours then why experiment and change? While I like them, its obvious they are never going to be one of the iconic bands of this generation so not much need to take risks if their current style works $$$.

No no no. There's a difference between "everything sounds the same" and "the style is the same". If you didn't know any better, you'd mistake one song for another when you hear Nickelback or AC/DC.

Now take a band like Blink-182, where the style is considerably the same.

Early AC/DC and later AC/DC sound completely different (due to a shift in style with their second lead singer).

Also, Nickleback sucks and AC/DC is cool.

I'm not debating what's cool and what's not. I don't care what's cool and what's not. I enjoy AC/DC. Nickelback... eh. It's passable, but not good.

AC/DC is hard to distinguish between each song. So is Nickelback. It has to do with the stylistic tendencies at vocals, and similar stylistic tendencies with the main guitar chords.

The epitomy of this is The Ramones. I LOVE The Ramones. That doesn't mean that all of the chords to The Ramones songs arent the same.... dont believe me? Look em up.

Oh, and for shits and giggles, "rock rock rock rock rockaway beach!". Tell me what went wrong there?

I know what you meant, I just wanted to throw that in there.

Also, I still say my point about early and and later AC/DC stands. The Bon Scott stuff sounds different than the Brian Johnson stuff. (Though all the Johnson stuff sounds identical.)

You missed my last tidbit.

I mixed Rockaway Beach with Rock 'N' Roll High School.

Rock Rock, Rockaway Beach!

Rock Rock Rock Rock Rock 'N' Roll High School!

There's a third song that's almost identical, can somebody name it?

I'm stumped..... twenty-twenty-twenty-four hours to go...

The Killers, in my opinion, are up there with Coldplay and a small handful of artists as the select new rock artists of the decade (for a weak decade in rock music, but nonetheless an honor).

Anyways,

Dirty Little Secret - All American Rejects

care to list that small handful of artists you'd put up there with those two? Just curious.

I was a bit sneaky on it... this one doesn't fall throughout the entire chorus of the song:

Sheena Is a Punk Rocker. Listen to the intro, 0:17 to 0:23 and tell me it doesn't sound like he's about to break out as "Rock rock, Rockaway Beach!". It's because the guitar chords are very similar.

Tough to really fill up, which is why it's quite exclusive. If you want me to justify these, I can. Somewhat in this order:

Coldplay

The Killers

Blink-182

The White Stripes

Muse

The Strokes

Arcade Fire

And these artists, perhaps not all formed in the 2000s, at least rose to fame in the 2000s. I tried to make this as least bias as I could, I'm not even a fan of The White Stripes, The Strokes, and I hardly like The Arcade Fire.

Speaking of what's not cool, is anybody going to the Barry Manilow concert at the Bank Atlantic Center? I actually remember hearing his songs as a kid back in the 80's. I don't know why he's uncool. His music's pretty good.

Linkiin' Park is playing there soon too. Are they still cool? Some people say their newer music sucks. I don't listen to enough of their music to know, but my favorite songs by them are the ones when the other guy raps. Crawling, In The End, Somewhere I belong. I never thought I'd say that rap makes music better, but with Linkin' Park, it is so. To me at least.

I dare you Nickelback haters to watch this video and not get teary eyed when its over. Its amazing. The person who created it spoofed the cell phone commercials that had people's minutes counting up over their heads and changed the cell phone minutes to minutes left to live. Simple but genius and very effective:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s5xsn4G_1Y

I wouldn't call myself a fan but I like some of their songs.

Not many music videos amaze me nowadays. They're no longer an art form like they were in the 80's and early 90's. They're just a marketing tool now. There are still a few people who still make music video's an art form. RHCP for example. I can't wait for their new album.

I agree with what Dr. Bienfest said about musical taste, but we can all agree that Justin Bieber isn't cool right?:p

I think Lady Gaga is one of those Sirens from Greek Mythology.:o :lol

No need to justify, decent arguments could be made for most of those.

I might throw in Queens of the Stone Age, maybe Interpol, Spoon...

okay I'm reaching. I guess Radiohead probably counts for the 90s.

But yeah as much as I like some of those bands, weak decade it's been. Didn't help when the first half was drowning in nu-metal.

bah.... Sheena is a Punk Rocker, yep.

I had Interpol on the list, and Snow Patrol, and was considering Queens of the Stone Age. But then I realized I was stretching for B-listers and I removed them.

Which my main point of the comment, it's been a weak decade. That's a freakishly short list. With every other decade of rock music, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, I can make lists of 15-20+ artists of the same or greater caliber, if not 35-40.

I'm seeing them in the summer, can't wait :D

It's at T in the Park, the festival I go to. Only confirmed acts so far are Blink and the Foo Fighters. Majority of other acts announced in February.

I like most kinds of music with some exceptions: not very fond of country or rap (I used to like rap back when I was younger). I have a great appreciation for anyone who can write songs especially songs that are meaningful or creative and not just catchy song meant to drive you insane because they won't get out of your head. I have a great dislike for pop groups or pop stars that just have other people write songs for them so they can sing because all they have is a good voice.

I can tolerate Nickleback but I wouldn't buy their cds/songs. I'm not ashamed to admit that I like a lot of oldies songs. I like the 60s and 70s music and the vibe I get from them...pyschedelic rock is fun heh. But I'm probably a rare person who would go from listening to 60s stuff like the Beatles to Marilyn Manson (just an example of the range of different styles). And I like AC/DC as well.

I'd just like someone to tell me how the heck Justin Bieber gets his own movie. I mean really? I question the integrity of anyone responsible for that disaster. I know it's all about greed and money but give me a break. It's sad to think that there's a lot of great movie ideas just sitting somewhere full of dust, never to see light...and yet Justin Bieber gets his own movie.

Ugh lucky!

That concert, among other concerts, is the reason why I will never pass up an opportunity again.

I'll settle this.. Nickelback and AC/DC both suck!

Oh, and I have Our House by Crosby Stills, Nash and Young stuck in my head
