Has anyone seen St. John's commitment list? Good lord! 9 players: 1 five star, 5 four stars and 3 three stars, according to rivals.

Nice.. Hawks landed the 7th best center prospect of the 2012 class, 7'1" Adam Woodbury. Chose the Hawks over North Carolina.. woot! Combined with a 4 star PG in the 2012 class, the new coach has the Hawks pointed in the right direction.

Can't stand watching the 14-0 UCF Knights end up like... 19-8 or whatever. That was miserable to stomach.

I can't stand watching four 6-1 unathletic shooters stand outside of the 3-point line and dominate against poorly run zone defenses.

College basketball is awful.

New Mexico State just got a monster.

Sim Bhullar

#16 rated center in 2011 class

7'4" 330

For a second, I thought his name was "Slim"...

I swear to God, I'm going to hurt someone if all I have this spring is f***ing college basketball.

PANTHERS HOCKEY: GET PUCKED UP!

I'm counting down the days until college basketball starts.

The University of New Mexico has enough talent to play with anyone and should make a deep run in the tourney.

Even more talent than the team that won 30 games and was ranked #8 in the country a couple years ago.

The day a Steve Alford-coached team makes a deep run in the tourney is the day I'll eat my hat

Still upset Alford left for a better job I see.

He recruits top transfers and highly rated high schoolers to Albuquerque while Iowa is still fighting for their first winning season since he left 5 years ago.

:lol :lol

he divided the fan base, sided with a rapist, and single-handedly alienated an entire fanbase. good for him he went to a mid-major because thats the only place he can get away with his asshole demeanor and alienate people while getting away with it. thank god we have a new coach who is finally bringing the program back. alfords a joke and the single biggest asshole on the planet. half the sh*t he does now he could never get away with in a real conference. but at least his hair is nice!

ps how many of his assistants does he have illegitimate children with? a real class act that guy is. but congrats to new mexico. at least their beating the west central michigan states of the world.

...and making fun of the iowa basketball program gets you nowhere. alford is the one who ran it in to the ground. you wait though.. fran mccaffery is bringing it back. you wait and see

Alford would consistently blame players through the media.. berate players on opposing teams, to the point he would argue with them and literally almost come to blows on the basketball court.. stories from iowa city about how he is the single-biggest prick in public places.. not to mention he loves him some rapists!

and i havent even mentioned basketball. his ncaa tournament track record at iowa was pathetic. thank god he was shown the door.. even though his replacement for 3 years was a bigger joke than him.. not even sure how thats possible

in iowa, we actually, you know, have standards and expect our coaches to carry themselves in a certain way. i'm sure his act will go over fine in new mexico tho

Well that's great. Outside of a couple of on-court shouting matches he has been a great member of the Albuqueque community. I could care less what he did at Iowa.

I'll take contending for a march madness bid every year in a mid-major conference over being the laughing stock of a major conference any day of the week. No, Steve Alford didn't run your program into the ground, it's your crappy facilities that did that. Your gym is widely regarded as one of the worst in college basketball. Alford wanted a school that would actually put money behind the program and he found one at New Mexico who did a 65 million dollar renovation on an already famous gym.

There is a reason why we have trouble finding quality opponents to play us at home, not too many teams want to go in front of 18,000 opposing fans in high elevation. That's the reason why our series with Lute Olsen's Wildcats got cancelled, he didn't want to play us at home anymore.

I remember when Lickliter was hired, all New Mexico fans heard from Iowa fans was how he would coach circles around Alford and how UNM fans would be calling for his firing within two years.

Great call by the way.

In terms of our lack of quality opponents, we have beat over the last 2 years:

#3 BYU

#9 BYU

#10 BYU

#11 BYU

#18 Texas A&M

#24 Texas Tech

#25 UNLV

#25 California

The last two years mighty Iowa has beat:

#6 Purdue

Yeah, I can clearly see the difference between a Mountain West team and a Big Ten team.

PS: Alford went 152-106 at Iowa with 3 NCAA bids and 3 NIT bids in 8 years. That doesn't qualify as running a program into the ground. Running a program into the ground is taking over for a coach who went 65-69 over ten years and going 2-26 the next 2 1/2.

Prior to the Golden Boy, Iowa had made 9 NCAA tournament appearances in 13 years under Tom Davis and never lost a 1st round game. Alford, coming in to take Iowa to the "next level" did just the opposite, winning one NCAA tournament game in 8 years, including losing to Northwestern State in the 1st round as a 3 seed. Carver-Hawkeye is a wonderful basketball stage.. but yes, their practice facilities were awful under Alford/Lickliter... which is not the case anymore.. but nonetheless, his predecessor yielded much better results with a lot less talent.

Anyway, I shouldn't have said anything. In hindsight, Alford was a bad hire but at the time (like lickliter) was the "it" hire. I'm sure he'll do fine in the southwest but highly doubt he'll ever have success on the major conference level. So hopefully for his sake he can create something down there.

Picked to win the Mountain West in the preseason poll.

Two players picked as preseason first team -- one of whom was voted preseason Player of the Year.

Preseason Freshman of the Year in stud Aussie Hugh Greenwood.

Can't wait to whoop UNLV and shut their annoying fans up.
