Another thing that confuses me is how anybody can think that the existence of the play-in games is perfectly logical. The whole selection and seeding process is one big f***ed up mess if you ask me.
March 17, 201115 yr Because the "bubble" teams whose exclusion frustrates fans/analysts were not going to be 16 seeds; they were going to be 11 or 12 seeds, typically. 13-16 are reserved for the weakest teams that won their conference tournaments. And since the goal is to give some more "bubble" teams a shot, they added the 2 play-in games which do not involve 16 seeds.
