Admin
The Marlins made a series of roster moves this morning. The biggest names are LHP Sean West and OF Bryan Petersen, who are among five players optioned to Class AAA New Orleans. Also optioned to New Orleans: RHP Steve Cishek, RHP Alex Sanabia and LHP Dustin Richardson. Re-assigned to minor league camp — C Kyle Skipworth, C Vinny Rottino, RHP Tom Koehler and RHP Shawn Hill. OF Chris Lubanski was released. http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/2011/03/16/sean-west-bryan-petersen-among-cuts-from-florida-marlins-camp/
Schnellders
I know he wasnt ever gonna make the Opening Day roster, but Cishek's stats were reasonably impressive during Spring - 7 innings over 5 games, 1 run allowed, 6 strikeouts
Overhed
Why did we release Lubanski? The guy hit .293 in AAA last year and slugged .538 in 355 ABs. Is it an arbitration issue?
ctina2277
Not really surprised to hear about West.
canada-marlin24
kind of surprised about cishek....really like him and think he will be up with the team quite soon. surprised we released lubanski. dont get why we couldnt just put him in AAA for now. also surprised shawn hill was cut so early. richardson was a little wild but i think showed some composure in tough spots. Hammerhead
Lubanski is still only 25 and was a top prospect when he was drafted. He OPSed .804 and .899 the last two years, can play all three OF spots well, and as far as I can see, he still has options. Releasing that kind of lefty bat is dumb. Maybe they meant to release Petersen (.686 and .781 OPS the last two years) and just accidentally cut the wrong guy.

These guys never had a chance. The only one who really had a slim chance was Lubanski, and even he didn't have much of a chance to make this team. It's not surprising; it's irrelevant. SPRING...TRAINING...IS...RATHER...IRRELEVANT!

Overhed
I still don't understand why we couldn't keep Lumanski or at least trade him.

BosnianBaller_
so this pretty much means that wise and cousins have won the 2 backup outfielder spots.
Erick
so this pretty much means that wise and cousins have won the 2 backup outfielder spots. Both of those guys won't make the team. As a matter of fact, it's possible neither of those guys makes the team. Our outfield sucks. Easily the worst thing about this team. The outfield and the bench. Sucks defensively, but not offensively. And if I had to choose between the two, I would pick Wise.

This team is going to find a cast off from somewhere else that is better than what we have.
SilverBullet
so this pretty much means that wise and cousins have won the 2 backup outfielder spots. Theres still 41 guys in camp, too early to be assuming that anyone has won any spots. Plus, theres always the chance of last minute outside moves. Camps not over. Also, who says theres 2 backup spots. Considering Boni can play the outfield when necessary, I'd say we get one backup outfielder and just use Boni in an emergency. Schnellders
We didn't acquire Nate Robertson till March 30th last year so anything could still happen.

Derp. :lol I asked Joe Capozzi what the deal was, via Twitter and he said that Lubanski's stats in ST were kind of weak. I don't know that that's enough to cut a player, so it sounds like an educated guess on his part.
