The Marlins have slowly but surely been working on signing their picks from the 2011 draft. Thus far the Marlins have signed 19 of the 50 picks. 6th round pick, LHP Charlie Lowell, signed.

I haven't found the Lowell signing on any website and he's yet to be assigned a team. But I would venture a guess he'll be assigned to Jamestown when they announce the signing. Thanks!

Still no official word on the Lowell signing, nothing on Marlins site, Baseball America or Minorleague baseball.

The Marlins have added #10 pick Scott Lyman-P and added him to Jamestown roster were he's listed as being on disabled list, they've also signed # 31 Kenny Jackson-3B from Texas A&M and assigned him to GCL Marlins. A side note two time Marlins draftee Taiwan Easterling of Florida State University, a 27th round pick for the Cubs this year has signed.

Jose Fernandez and the Marlins are a world apart per his slot the Marlins are offering 1.6 Million but Fernandez is demanding 4 million...so much for Fernandez being drafted based on signability...Likely if Fernandez doesn't come down to earth he will not be a Marlin. He is threatening to either go to Japan or enroll in South Florida

It seems the Marlins always wait until late to sign their picks, I would assume that would still be the case with Fernandez.

I was hoping to see more players signed befor updating, Josh Adams # 13 pick out of U of F has signed and been assigned to Jamestown.

BTW Austin Barnes is looking better than Skipworth ever has, he possibly could be moving up to the top catching prospect in the organization very quickly

He's also older than Skipworth.

Josh Adams signed and is a Gator, Gators usually do big things, thats all!

He's also older than Skipworth.

about 2 month older...and a whole lot more skilled...I guess that Barnes maybe older for the NY Penn League while Skipworth is in AA ball already, regardless there are so many holes in Skipworth as a player that in all honesty he doesn't even project as a viable ML backup catcher at this point

And it's far too early to say anything at all about Barnes. Especially in the NYPL.

Agreed! I am just saying he is making a very good first impression

A few more signings trickling in. Fifth round pick Mason Hope and Daniel Oliver # 8 have been assigned to GCL Marlins. # 11 pick Jacob Esch has signed but has yet to be assigned. Still no word on Lowell.

  • 4 weeks later...

2nd round pick Adam Conley signed.

7th round pick Ryan Rieger (1B) was also signed.

Is it still a mystery if Jose Fernandez is going to sign. Is there in inclination to his preference?

His agent says it'll get done, but I don't know how much of that is just talk.

He signed for $2 million.

Seriously I was just posting this when I see your post.

The Marlins have kept their streak intact in signing first rounders

Still no word on # 3 Barron or #4 Palmer?

Not signing.

So what happens again if one of our players doesn't sign, do we get a pick compensation pick or anything?

Do we know where Fernanadez is going to be designated? I know Yelich went to the Grasshoppers last year.

The team will get a compensation pick for the 3rd rounder who did not sign, but not for the 4th rounder.

The Marlins now have to have the worst farm system in MLB by a distance. The Nats sure did sign some talent. The Marlins sure have put all their eggs in a few baskets. They have a lot of holes and have not drafted well or spent any money in the last 3 drafts.

That's very sad. I guess Loria is planning on spending in FA, or else we could be bad for a very, very long time. I think its time Beinfest has his work examined and maybe we can do better than him. How about getting the # 2 guy in Atlanta ? Not only could he be gold for us, it would hurt Atlanta too. But I think I have seen enough of Beinfest. He's done some good stuff here, but the way he has us positioned now, its really scary.
