I'm not sure why though. Sickels says he projects to a #3. That'd be pretty sweet if he was a #3 to go along with JJ, Ani, Ricky, and Volstad. That's pretty much out only solid SP specs for at least this year and next year, though. I really want to sign C.J. Wilson as an FA.

Unless we sign a free agent pitcher next year, or trade for one, we'll be bringing back Volstad (who should cost somewhere around 2.5-3 million depending on how his second half goes). Which is really not that bad. Let Sanabia and Hand battle it out for the fifth spot (West is really becoming a non-factor at this point). If this team plans on signing Anibal to a long-term deal, I really don't see the payroll flexibility to bring in a decent free agent pitcher next year. I could be wrong, and they sign one anyway for a big push in which case they'd likely look to shed Volstad's salary. Lots of things need to play out first. Here's to hoping James breaks out in AA next year.
July 3, 201115 yr Hand is not big-league ready. He's fortunate that his ERA isn't really high; his peripherals are terrible. It's a shame that he's being rushed, and as McKeon said...he's "not here to develop guys." They should callup Sampson; the season is probably lost and he's a veteran who might do well and if he doesn't...who cares? He's probably our best option at this point, as sad as that sounds. Hand needs to be sent down.
July 3, 201115 yr They should pick up someone like Kazmir and use him just to get innings. Something Kazmir was mediocre at doing even in his good days.
