November 18, 201114 yr He will never succeed in the NFL. His mechanics... are not mechanical enough. So you believe he is succeeding in the NFL?
November 18, 201114 yr He will never succeed in the NFL. His mechanics... are not mechanical enough. That may still hold up.
November 18, 201114 yr Author I mean credit goes to him for some final drive, but god how can you ignore how atrocious he was for the rest of the game? His defense gave him the ability to do what he did. Seriously... he left them out to dry for forever and a half. And they still put up points on the board for him.
November 18, 201114 yr Welp. *questions atheism* One more game like this or last week's , then ill really start doubting my atheism.
November 18, 201114 yr I don't care for stats when it comes to football, honestly. I don't think they show you everything you need to know. However, I still don't think Tebow is a good QB despite me snapping on this thread, Twitter and Facebook. I do think he can be a good player in the NFL, though. Just at a different position.
November 18, 201114 yr I don't care for stats when it comes to football, honestly. I don't think they show you everything you need to know. No stat in any sport shows you everything you need to know. But in every sport, they show you more than any other alternative.
November 18, 201114 yr If you guys watched the post show they had Tebow on, you can tell none of the hosts had any respect for him, asking him countless times what he tells the receivers when they're wide open and he misses them. It was sad and funny.

But in every sport, they show you more than any other alternative. I disagree. I think in football, watching and analyzing is more effective than stats.
November 18, 201114 yr I think in all walks of life, our perceptions and ability to judge what we see is inherently flawed, and is not to be relied upon without the backing of objective data.
November 18, 201114 yr Watching is not inherently flawed. Stats are useful, and I use them, but at the end of the day the tape never lies.

You don't perfectly interpret the tape. There are many things limiting that interpretation, including but not limited to: camera angles; your biases; things you don't pick up on; things you see but analyze incorrectly, etc.
November 18, 201114 yr Like I said, people have inherent preconceptions and biases which color the way they view things. If stats can lie, your mind can and does (unwittingly) do the same.

There are many things limiting that interpretation, including but not limited to: camera angles; your biases; things you don't pick up on; things you see but analyze incorrectly, etc. Camera angles are not a problem with coaches tape. It will be really, really hard to miss things on tape. Really hard. Not sure why you listed that. As for the bias, that doesn't have an argument here. You go by what you see on tape. You record what you see on film. Your feelings toward a team do not effect what they do when you are watching. You see more on tape than you do on the stat sheet, and that is a fact.
November 18, 201114 yr Like I said, people have inherent preconceptions and biases which color the way they view things. If stats can lie, your mind can and does (unwittingly) do the same. Again, I do not know what bias has to do with this. My feelings toward one team will not effect how I think they performed. For example, If I were a New York Jets fan, and I watch the play where Tim Tebow scored the game winnning touchdown, it is very obvious to me what happened. The New York Jets safety lost contain on a blitz, let Tim Tebow get the edge, and Tebow ran in for the score. No bias there. You record what you see.
November 18, 201114 yr A bias can be not related to whether you like one team or the other. Fine, forgive me for not giving the proper definition for the term bias. My point is, you watch the tape and it tells you all you need to know. More than a stat sheet.

November 18, 201114 yr You're just sticking your fingers in your ears and sticking out your tongue right now. I think it would have been better if you did not respond at all. I gave valid points. If you did not agree with them, ok.
