I detect the sarcasm here, but it's worth noting that the problem isn't the system. Every 2 years, WE have the opportunity to vote the assholes out of office and yet never do so.

 

The problem is that many citizens just don't pay close attention to the news and proceed to elect the bad guys into office.

 

In other words, the citizenry as a whole usually gets the government it deserves.

FBI shut down megaupload.com today. Justified or not... it's sickening that they're targeting that and not something along the lines of... oh...The Pirate Bay?

Seriously, google should protest by shutting down. Imagine if google shuts down for a day? It would be catastrophic. A lot of businesses use Gmail, not to mention their servers.

My point being that Pirate Bay has a defense in that they simply 'link' pirated material rather than host pirated material. megaupload.com was just shut down for hosting pirate software.

 

Was megaupload right? Not for me to decide, but at the very least we can say that it was justifiable to shut it down. megaupload.com is a community-based website based on uploading and hosting general files of all types. Pirate Bay is a community-based website based on sharing copyrighted and stolen material.

 

You tell me, is that justice? You hurt the lives of millions by shutting down such a great tool in megaupload where the majority of the users were not breaking the law and never had the intention of doing so. However, a site like Pirate Bay is cool to operate. Semantics and technicalities as according to the law. bulls***.

Also worth noting, Megaupload (etc) is responsible for roughly 4% of all internet bandwidth.

It will be back, probably buried within another bill with the hope for it to be overlooked. This is only the beginning.

The Pirate Bay is a Swedish based site. MegaUpload is a Hong Kong based site. What's the point?
