March 30, 201214 yr I don't see how Kearns would ever get time at 1st this season. Isn't Dobbs our backup there? Kearns took balls at 1b yesterday at Astros game, Dobbs has to get healthy first, but he can also play the corners of infield and outfield, personally I would like to see Cogs in that super sub role getting playing time in the infield too, but that would be after time in the minors
March 30, 201214 yr I'm tired of Cogs. I'm sure he'll mess up...course if he hits .280 off the bench....different story.
March 30, 201214 yr Let the bitching commence. Yea, CanesCop. Looks like you and I are about the only two here who predicted Coghlan on the opening day roster. BUT HE CAN'T PLAY!!!! OMGZ!!!! Who said Coghlan would likely not be on the roster?
March 30, 201214 yr In which case they went with the worse defensive player who isn't a clear offensive upgrade either. Spring Training! Except Petersen actually had the better Spring, so this move makes even less sense on other levels.

Who said Coghlan would likely not be on the roster? You did and you weren't the only one though. Cousins among five cuts thread has everything in it. Most people expected and were pimping Peterson to get the job. How is it starting to look like Coghlan will be the 4th outfielder? I would be amazed if it wasn't Petersen. I'm surprised more people aren't in favor of a Le Visage de Gaffe/Petersen platoon in center. Considering a seemingly likely regression for Boner and the fact that he's much better as a right-handed hitter.
March 30, 201214 yr Poor Petey Bryan Petersen @Peteypipes Me? RT @TKREFRESH22: Who's going to be at @zephyrsbaseball season opener on April 5? That's rough... lol

I said Coghlan shouldn't be considered the 4th outfielder, not that he wouldn't be on the roster.
March 31, 201214 yr Coghlan might be on the Opening Day roster because Morrison and Stanton might not even play. So, in that case, yes, Coghlan will probably be on the Opening Day roster. At this point, I don't see how the two backup OF'ers aren't Kearns and Petersen. Kearns is apparently hitting the ball very well in ST and we need a righty pinch-hitter. Idk what Petersen's doing nor do I care because the bottom line is that Petersen>>>Coghlan defensively and he did just fine with the bat last year. Off the bench, I'd like Petersen's defense on the team. We have an inexperienced CF'er and Morrison is attrocious in LF. Petersen could see plenty of playing time as a defensive replacement if Ozzie uses his brain. Morrison sucks out there and shouldn't be in the game once his AB's are done and we have a lead in the late innings. Which is fine. If one of Morrison/Stanton aren't ready for Opening day, then its probably a toss up between Coghlan and Kearns for a roster spot. With the latter being more likely since this team is fond of using Spring as a barometer, and because he gives us a right-handed bat, like you say. Really doesn't matter that much. But the original assertion made was that Coghlan was the 4th outfielder right now, which is kind of asinine. Not whether or not he would make the opening day roster, which will probably be contingent on the health of Morrison/Stanton. And nobody in that thread said Coghlan would surely not make the roster. Most people felt the health of Stanton and Morrison would be the determining factor. DUH NAILED IT!1!
March 31, 201214 yr NAILED IT! By the way, you might want to learn how to fight your own battles. Instead of waiting for someone to chime in to your side of the argument. I've noticed you don't respond to any of my posts unless someone joins your side first. Just saying.

I've noticed you don't respond to any of my posts unless someone joins your side first. Just saying. I'm really wondering why this site seems more like a political debate than it does a a place where Marlin fans can get together to discuss their team. Why are we worried about how to properly conduct arguments in the first place? Every single statement made here these days seems to be more heavily scrutinized than a campaign speech, and while I and others will join in an argument every once in a while, it may be entirely possible that some posters don't have a dire need to defend themselves constantly from those who seem to spend their day just looking up elusive minor stats to try and create the impression that another poster is an idiot or inferior. Only difference I can see between this board and a political arena these days is that at least those arguing in the political arena are doing so to literally win a popularity contest. If you win an argument here, or someone doesn't respond to your criticism at all because maybe they didn't even find your response compelling enough, do you win free Marlins tickets or something?
March 31, 201214 yr Wow, Sirspud, I never thought of it that way. Great argument. Admin, don't forget to get his mailing address.

March 31, 201214 yr Silly that Coghlan made the team. They're trying him out in RF; why not, uh, just put Petersen on the team? The guy who can already play RF...

While I don't find your response very compelling, or factual, or to be anything but a cop out for crappy posting, I feel I must thank you for acknowledging those of us who spend our day looking up elusive minor stats. What with college, Cricket, and playing in poker tournaments it hasn't been very easy to spend all day looking up elusive minor stats. But I try my best. You're welcome. Also, I was under the impression that winning an argument here meant someone associated with this board would reward me with all the num nums and goodies my heart could desire. Its why I've been trying so hard. :|
March 31, 201214 yr I just don't think "elusive" is the right word for something that you can find by typing "player's name" + "Minors reference" into the google.

I guess by quoting sirspud's post and giving him a pat on the back for his words of wisdom would constitute as not being able to defend myself and waiting for someone else to chime in, but whatever. NAILED IT!

NAILED IT! Just pointing out what seems to be an obvious pattern. I've quoted one of your posts 3 times. The first time you didn't respond because, predictably, nobody chimed in for support. The last two times, when someone has chimed in, you've come up with constructive posts like "nailed it". When in fact you nailed nothing and were unequivocally wrong. But I don't expect you to acknowledge that. Keep up the good work.
