Ok, so Gaby's down to .192. Given that he doesn't get his sh*t together by the break, we're probably going to have to make a move unless we are really that comfortable with LoMo at 1B and Kearns/Petersen platooning. Personally, I'm not.

I wish we had the prospects to get Adam Dunn but because we don't, I think Carlos Lee is a likely target. He's old but I wouldn't mind him if he can stopgap to Yelich/play until Gaby wakes the f*** up.

Other suggestions?

If Carlos Lee is the answer, find another question.

Trade for Josh Willingham, put him in left and move Lomo to 1st. Problem solved.

Gaby for Harper

wish there was an easy way to replace Gaby (and Buck for that matter) if there is no improvement soon... there's quite a bit of dead weight in the line-up right now

At least Buck is walking and hitting for power right now. Gaby is doing neither, and it is a lot harder to find acceptable catchers than first basemen. It would probably be pretty easy to find a first baseman to replace Gaby right now.

There's no point in doing anything about Buck. He's under contract and is playing a position where offensive production is merely a luxury.

Gaby is the exact opposite. Wait until the end of the homestand to see if there's improvement or else send him down. Move Morrison to first and consider left field options.

If you do that and Reyes/Hanley hit like they are paid to, the line-up should be fine.

I think a platoon with Gaby should be considered, first. He is still hitting lefties at a good rate.

This isn't ideal, but I think the best combination is Gaby/Lomo vs lefties and Lomo/Kearns vs righties.

I don't like moving Lomo back and forth between positions. He's already abysmal in left with 100% of his attention there.

I can understand that view point, but I don't think the impact of moving him back and forth will be that bad. I feel like we should give Gaby some more time. Platoon him. Do it.

I'd also rather Gaby be getting consistent ABs in the minors rather than sitting on the bench when there is a right hander on the mound (which is most of the time). Let him work on his game and call him up if anybody gets injured.

Also, the concern I have with Willingham (other than his defense) is that he's had a couple of seasons where he's gone on a tear in the first half but started sucking in the second.

That would be better for Gaby, but I don't think that makes the team better. I wouldn't be opposed to that, though.

One option -- maybe a bit out-if-the-box -- would be to trade for Peter Bourjos, CF from the Angels. Supposedly, they were looking for just a reliever, although they've denied those rumors.

Still, if he's available, you get a really good defensive CF, slide Bonifacio over to LF where he should be pretty good, and move LoMo to first. Bourjos' bat may not be an upgrade over Gaby's, but you get a bit better defensively in CF and a ton better defensive in LF. I could see that change being worth at least 2 wins (i.e. Bourjos is 5 runs better than Boni in CF, Boni in LF is 15 runs better than LoMo in LF, and LoMo and Gaby are a wash at 1B).

Lots of options if this holds up, but most assuredly Yelich will not be one of those as suggested. They could always move LoMo to first and trade for an outfielder, or keep him there and get a 1b. As long as they keep winning it doesn't matter.

Finding a full time LF with an upgrade over Morrison's defense and Gaby's bat definitely makes the team better.

It's also in the team's best interests to get Gaby to figure out what adjustments he needs to make.

if gaby doesnt turn it around soon i would rather have lomo or dobbs at first and left field.

if u want to keep dobbs on the bench then move lomo to first and put kearns in left.

of course this team is better with gaby producing and having bats like kearns and dobbs backing up.

Send down Gaby to work on his game and bring up Petersen.

Petersen in left immediately upgrades our defense over Lomo.

Lomo at first base keeps some stress off the knee giving him more at bats.

Putting Petersen and Lomo in the lineup gives you two lefty bats you can separate with a righty making it tougher for opponents to match up relievers.

I think everyone is reacting to quick. Baseball is a game of streaks. If Gaby started hot and then had a down 20-30 games midseason no one would say anything. The way i see it, by the end of year gabby will be hitting around 280 or so meaning the rest of the way he will hit over 300.I do think though your first baseman should hit 30 hrs and 100 RBI and not sure he is capable of that.

Look at his 2011 numbers starting from the All-Star game and then come back and tell us we are reacting too quick.

Gaby's not capable of those numbers and people would absolutely get pissed if he struggled like this in the middle of the season.

He's never really hit for high average, so I don't know why you expect a career high from him.

This is basically why I have little patience with him. He's been struggling since the second half of last season, which means he hasn't been able to make the adjustments he needs.

It's not out of the question that he can still put together decent offensive numbers this year, but the Marlins can't keep putting him out there if he is going to be below replacement player value (even with his good defense).

My guess is that the Marlins won't do anything drastic (something other than sitting him a couple of games) until the team starts going on a losing streak again. That's assuming, of course, that he doesn't pick it up before that happens.
