Posted March 5, 201311 yr Miami Marlins left-hander Charlie Lowell was arrested on Saturday morning after police say the Minor Leaguer choked, slapped and verbally attacked his girlfriend before pulling her down a flight of stairs following an argument at his home in Riviera Beach, Fla. Lowell, 22, was charged with battery by strangulation after allegedly attacking his girlfriend, according to police reports. He was released from Palm Beach County Jail on Sunday morning. Lowell, the Marlins' sixth-round pick in the 2011 Draft, confessed to slapping his girlfriend's face, pulling her down the stairs, throwing her, along with her phone and clothing, out of their home, according to a Riviera Beach Police affidavit. The affidavit said Lowell told cops he "wasn't thinking clearly" and was "very upset" after finding out that his girlfriend had cheated on him. According to a report in the Palm Beach Post, Lowell went through his girlfriend's cell phone and found text messages from another man around 5:30 a.m. The woman, who said she has been in a relationship with the pitcher for about two years, told police that Lowell slapped her, called her derogatory names and threw her on a bed before dragging her down stairs and out of the Thousand Oaks development home. The woman was photographed by police with red marks on her neck and face, according to WPTV.com. Lowell spent most of the 2012 season with Class A Greensboro, where he finished 5-5 with a 4.35 ERA in 23 outings. A 6-foot-4 southpaw from Wichita State University, the St. Charles, Mo., native struck out 122 batters in 114 innings and also made one start for Class A Advanced Jupiter. He had some flashes of brilliance in his first full season, striking out 14 while flirting with a no-hitter on July 16 against Kannapolis. He then whiffed nine over seven hitless innings on July 21 -- in those two starts, he allowed just one hit over 14 frames to earn South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week honors on July 23. He appeared in four games in his first season with the Class A Short-Season Jamestown and the Rookie-level Gulf Coast Marlins in 2011. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130305&content_id=42288274&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&tcid=tw_share
March 5, 201311 yr It will be interesting to see how the Marlins handle this situation, given the circumstances I can't say what I would or wouldn't do. I certainly hope that this is something both he and the team can get through, maybe they can contact Bobby Cox's advisor's.
