Valaika and Coghlan make the team

Featured Replies

Glad to see coghlans solid spring wasn't ignored just because of gorkys lack of options. Valaika is a surprise but I look forward to seeing what he can bring to the table.

Interesting choice to go with Valaika, before this spring I had never even heard of the guy. Also glad to see Coghs getting another shot, this is someone who could build some trade value if he sniffs some success due to the fact that when healthy he's done it before.

Did john maine make the roster? Redmond refused to say he made the team yesterday, but they don't seem to have any other options unless they get something for gorkys.

Even though he doesn't hit I'm kinda surprised Gorkys didn't make it since he's probably best defensively of the group - especially considering Ruggs' back and Pierre's age. I guess having Kearns on the team takes up that other OF spot. Makes Coghlan the best backup outfielder which is a little iffy but whatever. Maybe he can make something of this.

He didn't make it officially yet, they may still be trying to acquire someone.

Well, under MLB rule, if you have 5+ years on ML service time don't you have to be told a certain number of days ahead of time whether you made the team? I know they had to tell Kearns, Slowey, etc. a few days ago for that reason, wouldn't have Maine fallen under the same umbrella?

That would lead me to believe he did not make the club.

In the article it says the Marlins have to make room on the 40-man roster for Chad Qualls, Austin Kearns, Casey Kotchman, Kevin Slowey, John Maine and Valaika.

Looks like Juan Rodriguez is under the impression he's made the ballclub.
