With less than a week to consummate a deal with catcher Pudge Rodriguez, they made their initial pitch. General Manager Admin Beinfest would not reveal the particulars, but an industry source said it was a two-year offer for between $15 million and $16 million.

Ramp, are you sure you mean 2 yrs/$8 mill instead of 2 yrs/$16 mill? Double check your post. I think you're trying to say $8 mill a year each.

i don't think it'll be a hometown discaount. the way the free agent market's been lately i'll be surprised if anyone offers him more than that.

I Rod might want a third year if it is just 8 million a year. I hope he does the right thing and signs. He was a star all his career, but now he is a leader, a winner, he actually means something. That is far more important than his 99 AL MVP (he was mvp that year right?)

We might end up doing the 3rd year with the plate appearance requirement found in Castillo's deal.

You could like 2-3 years ago, but now MLB choose for you according to the stats you put up with the teams you played for... BTW : Clemens will not go in as a Yankee, He will go in as a Red Sox... Compare the stats then you'll see why he'll go in as a Red Sox.. Plus he done nothin with the Yanks only win his 300th game and get his 4000 K..

it has nothing to do with what MLB and/or Bud Lite wants.

It used to be up to the player what hat they wore into the Hall of Fame. Wade Boggs' contract with the Devil Rays said that he would go into the Hall of Fame wearing a Tampa cap. That was when the HOF made the rule change that they chose what hat would be worn.

Winfield was also a huge reason that the hall changed its policy. The Padres paid him a bonus and bought him a car.
