Now, unless Loria is willing to spend approximately 100% of the national TV revenue bump of 25 or so mill per year on Stanton, he'll be gone at some point.

You think it'll take 25 million dollars a year to lock up Stanton? Really?

After this season? After the deal Trout got?

If not that much, very close to that.

It's funny how teams in similar shitty financial situations without new stadiums are spending more money on their team than Loria is.

Trout is the best player in all of baseball. There's a little bit of a difference here.

It'd probably be in the 15-18 mill per year range, not 25. Or, in Trout's case, 24.1 mill.

They also bought out more arbitration years in Trout's case, so the annual average should be lower because he was further away from free agency. After the arb years his annual rate skyrockets. And while he is the best player in baseball, Giancarlo Stanton and his agent can make an EASY case that he is the best player in the National League right this very moment.

Not to mention his extortive attempts to play GM.

Yeah ummm...Where exactly has he done this? Outside of the Toronto trade debacle (which was frustration more than anything) and him saying he wouldn't sign unless the team showed signs of competitiveness (which is, well, completely and totally understandable), I don't know where you're coming from with this line of thinking. Honest question, because I really haven't heard anything of the sort outside of those two instances, and both of those are completely understandable positions.

Do you guys think this would be a good time to try and trade Dunn?

I don't mean do you want to trade him, I mean is this an ideal time to get a decent return. I wanna say yes. He's had a solid past couple of months and the trade deadline is probably the best time to get someone to overpay for a setup man.

I would absolutely agree.
