July 20, 201411 yr Marlins have two outstanding players. One had major surgery and his return to greatness is iffy. Stanton will be gone in two years or less. Marlins have four other solid ML pitchers. Two are back of rotation types. One won't be with Marlins next year. Little else of note. No sure things in the minors. Infield is a disaster. Lousy defensively in any combination. Only bat is at third and he won't be a Marlin in 2016. No help in minors except possibly at third and that is no sure thing. Outfield solid except RF will be open in the next two years. Nothing in the minors. Catching poor defensively and sporadic offensively. Possible help fromminors as early as next year. Some help should be coming with Stanton's departure but FO needs to get it right. Marlins not an attractive destination for free agents who have a choice. I see nothing but mediocre to lousy teams in our future.
July 20, 201411 yr ^Agreed. Enough with this mediocrity. Show the fans you care about the team and they will come.
July 20, 201411 yr Loria needs to grow balls and stop any type of selling or just sell the team. Or....he needs to not do anything stupid and trade important pieces to try and improve the team for this season. I'm sorry, but we are not going to be anywhere near competing for a playoff spot until 2016.
July 20, 201411 yr I think this offseason we will have a better idea if Loria is serious about keeping Stanton or not. He can't put off offering an extension yet again.

The Stanton situation will be similar if not identical to the Uggla situation. Offer him an "Extension" he'll decline and then they'll trade him soon after. This will be the last season Stanton will be in a Marlins uniform IMO. Hope Im wrong

July 20, 201411 yr If Loria doesn't sign Stanton, he ain't signing Jose, and this team is never making a playoff run under him. Bank on it.
July 20, 201411 yr Maybe but Uggla was already heading towards a decline when we offered him that contract. If Stanton turns down an extension I think the Fish still keep him around at least one year longer. It's not the same as Uggla which was more like saying if he doesn't want the extension wipe ur hands clean of his trash before it gets worse. Stanton isn't at that level.
July 20, 201411 yr Like I said in the other topic. It is time Loria stop been a cheapass owner and sign the good players he has. Stanton and Fernandez like players do not grow on trees.
July 21, 201411 yr I would have no problem dealing Stanton for say... Kris Bryant and Javier Baez. That would soften the blow...
July 21, 201411 yr I would have no problem dealing Stanton for say... Kris Bryant and Javier Baez. That would soften the blow... I'm pretty sure Bryant is on their no-trade list. If I were them, I'd sign him to a 15 year deal right now, before he touches a Major League diamond. Baez might be a little more touchable now, though, with his struggles this season.
July 21, 201411 yr Kris Bryant is a god before even entering the majors. You don't let David Wright 2.0 escape your grasp even for Stanton. As of now the Astros seem like the team that would match up the best for Stanton, but it wouldn't make sense for them to be doing this whole saving money thing the last few years and then splurge $150 million+ on a Stanton extension.
July 21, 201411 yr I don't think Wright ever hit .340 with 33 jacks over two levels in 95 games at any point. He's not David Wright 2.0, he's Kris Bryant the First.
July 21, 201411 yr I would have no problem dealing Stanton for say... Kris Bryant and Javier Baez. That would soften the blow... Fuck you. How bout dat reality! Stanton stays.
July 21, 201411 yr It's been said 100 times but not signing Stanton years ago was a huge mistake, and it's not a hindsight is 20/20 kinda of deal. And with the way this organization is run if they sign him long term now, he will be eating up a huge portion of their annual payroll, and the rest of the team with be terrible. Or they can trade him now and take a shot at some prospects. It sucks. It really does suck, but this team will be under even more financial strain if they sign him. Or, you know, Loria can not be a cheap f***. Remember when "..." refused to admit that it was a mistake? That was fun.

Baez might be a little more touchable now, though, with his struggles this season. Stanton might be an exception. He's the best player available, period. And at Wrigley he would likely become one of the greatest power hitters in baseball history. Even without Bryant, I'll still take Russell, Baez, and someone else good. Our middle infield is solved for 5+ years in one transaction.
July 21, 201411 yr It was a general sentiment you expressed over many posts. You refused to comment on the Cabrera and Stanton fuck-ups because you "didn't own the team," which meant that your opinion "didn't matter."

July 21, 201411 yr It was a long exchange spanning many posts. I told you exactly where to find it. You are now exhibiting the exact same mindless stubbornness from that thread when you refused to weigh in on the FO's treatment Cabrera/Stanton because you "don't own the team."
July 21, 201411 yr Sorry, I'm not reading anything at your behest. Loria traded Cabrera because he coudn't afford him. Simple as that. He tried to spend in '04-'05 to win and the fans didn't show up, never mind the '03 success. No fans, no new stadium, not enough revenue, no Cabrera. Same thing in '12. He spent (stupidly) trying to build a winner in a new stadium and it didn't work. But, even if he'd spent smartly and built a winner instead of a loser, the fans still wouldn't have showed up. Who can't fill a 37K brand-new, state-of-the-art, retractable-roof stadium? Any baseball team in Florida, good, bad or indifferent. And why would any owner in a precarious financial situation (granted, largely of his own making) having lost 59 mill (and no one disputes the 59 mill figure) in '12 extend anyone for 80 or 100 mill or more who had spent as much time on the DL as Stanton did? Now, unless Loria is willing to spend approximately 100% of the national TV revenue bump of 25 or so mill per year on Stanton, he'll be gone at some point. As for myself, and my opinion doesn't matter, I'm getting tired of watching him take meatballs down the pipe and then swinging at (and usually missing) crap out of the zone. Not to mention his extortive attempts to play GM. If he brings half or 3/4ths of an infield in a trade, I'd be perfectly happy, we have plenty of quality OFers.
