2 years, $25 million should get it done. I feel like he's going to make a lot more than some of you expect.

That seems high to me but if the Marlins paid that I think I'd be ok with it. I was more guessing that he's a one year bounceback contract type of guy at this point.

Then again we're probably way ahead of ourselves. The article just says the Marlins have reached out to him, as I'm sure they have with 50 other pitchers as well.

I like Jake Peavy even at this stage in his career. Although not the same San Diego Padre Peavy he can bring alot of experience to a young club. However I sure hope this isnt the only move our club is planning on making. I'd like us to go out and get a a true 1-2 starter to compliment Jose Fernandez.

What true 1-2 starter is there right now who is actually a possibility for us?

Peavy's coming off a finish to last season where he put up a 2.17 ERA with the Giants (bad World Series but still).

I might come off as a bit crazy here but I feel like 3 years $45 million would need to happen to get him to come here (we're not the most desirable location so no discount, and seeing that he's 33 I'd think he wants to go for one more semi long-ish term deal before going back to the year to year format. Basically I see him cashing in on his good 2014 in San Fran where he greatly benefited from a move back to the NL).

EDIT: Looking at the article ESPN posted about Peavy I didn't realize teams are really holding his World Series ERA against him (and I guess his Boston beginning too). If that's what could be holding him back (as even Peavy said in the article that he "has a lot to prove") and we can get him for a reasonable deal for two years, I'd absolutely love him in Miami. He's the kind of guy that could actually have an All Star caliber season pitching at Marlins Park.

See that's why I initially thought even a one year deal was possible. I know he's worth more but if his bad World Series and poor Red Sox starts this year are going to hurt his free agency this year, then maybe he takes a one year deal with a team like Miami and then attempts a bounce back season for a potentially better deal next year. Of course that could be one of those February type free agency deals that end up happening out of last minute desperation like Ervin Santana last year but I'm just thinking Peavy getting a bigger deal isn't so certain.
