Im most interested who get the final 2 bench spots, I would think Valdespinga has to be one of them since he can cover both middle INF and OF.  And did a decent job filling the bench role last year.

Meh, .214/.280/.347 isn't that great. I like Brignac and Colvin for their upside, Sizemore too. But I guess Valdespinga's versatility does make him a bit more of a valuable piece.

Baker [RH 'power' bat, IF]

Mathis [catcher]

Ichiro [OF]

Rojas [iF]

I want to say Bour for power lefty bat off the bench but IDK if that'll happen.

That should be the bench IMO.

Why Rojas? Just curious, didn't really watch him much last year, but looking at his numbers nothing stood out.

Amazing defender, all of his value is with the glove.

I'm very curious what direction they go in for the bench spots. Do they go with offensive minded infielders like Sizemore or Dietrich? Defensive minded guys like Valdespin or Rojas? Or a power bat like Bour? It will be interesting.

Jordany Valdespin career defensive WAR: -2.0

Derek Dietrich career defensive WAR: -1.5

Also, I without a doubt want Rojas on the bench even if he can't hit to save his life. That defense will be so valuable as a late game replacement. Mathis and Baker are basically guarantees for the bench, and Ichiro is obvious. I leaves one more spot I believe. I know that Baker has the capability to play 1st base, so I think the team will let Bour start off in AAA getting regular AB's. Same thing goes for Dietrich. With Ichiro already on the roster, Reed Johnson starts in AAA until an injury forces him up.

I remember at Winter Warm Up that Michael Hill spoke highly of Don Kelly when discussing backup SS possibilities for Hechavarria. Add to the fact that Kelly can play every position out there, I think he gets that last spot (Assuming Rojas makes the team, which is highly predicated on his Spring Training performance).

Only catch to Reed Johnson dim is that he has a late March opt out if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster. He may not be willing to accept a spot at AAA.

Then again, after reading an interview with him recently he did say he didn't have many other teams after him and he is familiar and comfortable with the way this ballclub works so he may change his mind and spend some time in AAA but that opt out is definitely worth noting.

I'd agree with this. I'd rather have Rojas over Solano while Dietrich gets at bats in NO.

According to Frisaro, Marlins have considered opening the season with a 4 man bench and an 8 man bullpen to be able to keep both Hand (out of options) and McKirahan (rule 5) if they both happen to impress in the spring.

While I wouldn't mind attempting to keep both of them in the short term and letting the first few weeks of the actual season help determine the true odd man out, I'd be afraid of what it does to our bench more than anything. A four man bench scares me to be honest and I usually think an 8 man pen is overkill.

I generally agree with you, but a stocked bullpen and limited bench kind of makes sense at the beginning of the season. Pitchers aren't "stretched out" yet so the bullpen has to log more innings than it will later on and guys don't need as many days off so the bench doesn't have as much of an effect. Roster issues like options and Rule 5 suck, and this would really only delay the inevitable as sooner or later one of the two guys would have to go, but it's a decent idea to get a bit more of a read on McKiraHand
