Eminem "threatened" the president?

I quote an MTV News Article:

Eminem could find himself the subject of a Secret Service investigation if a lyric from one of his songs is construed to be a threat against President George W. Bush.

In his song "We As Americans," Eminem rhymes, "F--- money/ I don't rap for dead presidents/ I'd rather see the president dead/ It's never been said, but I set precedents."

"We As Americans" is one of the songs leaked online last week that Eminem's spokespeople said were unfinished tracks not intended for public release (see "Eminem's Benzino Dis Turns Up In The Lab" ). His reps could not confirm when the track in question was recorded. However, elsewhere in the song, Eminem references the release of 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin', which occurred in the last year.

A person in the Secret Service Office of Public Affairs confirmed that they were aware of the song and were looking into the matter. John Gill, the official spokesperson for the Secret Service, was not immediately available for further comment.

Even though Eminem doesn't mention Bush or the president of the United States specifically, it is standard procedure for the Secret Service to investigate anything that might be considered a threat against the president.

It's a threat in a way. He's saying he wants Bush dead but he never said he was going to kill him. Depends on how you look at it, I guess. I knew one day somebody would say that, and how ironic it happens to be Eminem, king of opinions.

True, but you have to remember that the Secret Service has to protect the President 100%. Yes, Eminem has free speech. I understand that, but you also need to realize the secret service is just doing their job. Chances are, Eminem won't do anything, but you know....in this country you can't take any big risks like that.

Well it's kinda obvious he's talking about Bush, it's not like he was talking about the President of France or something, considering the song is called "We as Americans"

As you all know, you can say whatever you want about the prez as long as you're not threatening his life...I would say Eminem's sitting right on the border of the 2.

I don't think Em should be charged but like PudgesXmasElf said, the Secret Service has every right to investigate it.

The Secret Service has a list of works that set off alarms, and "see the president dead" will certainly get their attention. They investigate hundred of situations such as this every week, but this one involves a high profile person.

BTW Look at the front of most U.S. money, whats on the front?

Well Madonna and Britney Spears and people of that caliber get attention for their clothes, acts, and sex appeal. Eminem gets attention for his songs, or in other words, his opinion. I admit and am fully aware that he has a violent way to express his opinions but the point obviously always get across. I personally like Eminem a lot because I like a person that say what's on their mind and don't care what anybody says about it. I don't neccessarily agree the way he goes about pursuing them though but that's a different story. So yes, Eminem gets a s***load of attention but at least it's not for some sex tape or weed they found in his car or something. It's for expressing his opinion, even if sometimes they are opinions you should keep to yourselves.

he already has

see: the patriot act

that's ridiculous, it doesn't eliminate free speech, they could just tap our phones and read our emails, which theyw ere doing before september 11th anyway. It just makes it easier to arrest terrorist. Personally, I don't like the bureaucratic implications that arise from it, and so I'm against it, but not at the extreme of beliving I can't say what the hell I want.

that is a violation of the first ammendment

They can't convict, but for years the government can detain you as a danger- this is not related to the patriot act.

Its better than andrew jackson threatening to kill you. (history buffs should get laugh)
