Kike Hernandez would have been a great UT player for the Marlins

Really pathetic how we had to throw in Kike AND Barnes just so the Dodgers would pay Dee and Haren's salary.....

You know this for a fact?  You were in the "war room" when it happened and heard LA demand that?  Interesting, I envy you.

When we start crying over the loss of Kike, it tells me this season needs to end.

Everyone we trade is a superstar apparently.

I've seen people crying over Hatcher, too. Seriously.

I'm guessing doyers getting kike was at least part of the reason they paid for haren and dee gordon's salary. You're giving the marlins FO too much benefit of the doubt on that. The doyers paying those salaries did not come free after all and it's pretty reasonable to infer (although not 100%, of course) that getting kike was key part of the doyers paying the marlins salary (and I think it's pretty obvious the marlins think solano is better than kike anyway)

This thread would have included his name too if not for his dismal season.  I remember when the trade happened, some were upset over the loss of this future Cy Young winner.

The Dodgers didn't really give a shit about sending money in the deal.  They wanted Heaney most of all obviously and that's the deal they agreed on in the end.  Miami felt Gordon was a game-changer and wanted him badly.  Haren the fish didn't want but he ended up in the deal with both teams figuring he'd end up retiring anyway.  The money was sent in case he didn't retire since Miami didn't really want him much in the first place.  Not once did LA say "If you want money, we must have that Kike kid and that Barnes stud too" or anything like that.  Anything said otherwise is just blind speak from the usual FO-bashing ignorant fanbase. *drops mic*

If it wasn't about the money, then I find it extremely ill-conceived and short-sighted that the Marlins would simply throw Kike into the trade as if he was completely expendable.

Seeing the black hole we have had at the utility spot since Amezega's first go around with the team, I would like to believe the Marlins would have had a high value on Kike... a guy they had just acquired from Houston (so clearly they liked him then...what happened over the course of a few months?).

If you like Dee Gordon then ok....Heaney, Barnes, Hatcher, minor league filler....don't let the Dodgers totally bend you over and take away a key utility piece that is Major League ready and could produce adequate numbers while playing multiple positions.

Typical Marlins move that has been discussed here recently...they are allergic to the idea of talented depth on the roster.

Well if you read what Admin said the marlins wanted dee gordon really bad and kike was critical for the trade to go through. He just explained it pretty well really.

Then why Barnes lol...OPS north of .880 while playing catcher in AAA....this was a total overpay no matter what numbers Gordon puts up.

If the Marlins think that Heaney, Kike, and Barnes for Gordon was a good trade....then we truly are doomed.

Because you can argue that a combination of Kike/Dietrich at 2B would have sufficed...and we would still have Heaney and Barnes to contribute to the team or trade for other assets.

I think the Dodgers have shown in the past few years they certainly don't mind spending money to get players they want via trades. I am sure the Fish weren't complaining about it (and may be why we sent them players twice in the past 12 months).

Barnes will amount to nothing, same with Kike.  If you want to be mad at that trade, I would look more at the fact they chose to send Heaney instead of Nicolino.  BTW, LA wanted Nicolino mostly as I have said here before but then they "settled" for Heaney.  Did we maybe have to toss in Barnes or Kike due to the fact we wanted to send Heaney instead?  Its quite possible.

What would the trade have been without Haren?

Do you think if we sent Nicolino instead of Heaney maybe it could have been Gordon for Nicolino straight up?

Well I have a question, do we know how that trade started as far as who initiated it?

My understanding is Gordon was made expendable and the Marlins went after him and the rest fell into place.

Marlins called LA asking what it'd take to get Gordon.  I do believe LA made it known that Gordon could be had before that call.

Why the hate on Barnes and Kike....the Marlins are far Far FAR from a place where they can afford to dismiss young players as nothing. Both have great potential to contribute on major league rosters for years to come IMO.
