February 23, 201610 yr What say you? I can't vote until I see more evidence one way or the other. Give him a shot in ST against lefties and see how it goes. His milb stats against lefties aren't terrible. The thing is Chris johnson kinda rakes lefties so he probably should be platooned.
February 23, 201610 yr Omg if the front office and/or Mattingly need a fuckin Admin-poll to figure this one out we're in a shit load of trouble.
February 23, 201610 yr The answer is obviously yes but not so much because of Bour but moreso because we have Chris Johnson. If you have Bour who is more than questionable against lefties and you have Johnson who eats lefties alive you undoubtedly platoon. Vice versa, Bour hit all his homers last year against righties and Chris Johnson has poor numbers against righties. We essentially have the very definition of a platoon staring us in the face and now the team isn't sure if they wanna use it? Outside of Mattingly being a good manager in support of Bour, I see no way they can't do a platoon.

February 23, 201610 yr He was decent against lefties in the minors but thoroughly atrocious against them in the majors last season. I say platoon him if it's a "tough lefty" and maybe give him a shot against soft tossers to see if he can get into a groove. As pollyvagwog said though, Johnson is pretty much only good against lefties, so that should be when he gets his playing time.
February 23, 201610 yr Just trying to get some discussions going, feel free to help Yeah I appreciate that but if there's really a question about this for Mattingly and/or the FO, then I stand by what I said. With that said, I did add to the discussion with my post three posts up.

February 23, 201610 yr Nothing was directed at me for this, topic was all my curiosity. how much moola or season tickets you're making for this poll?
February 23, 201610 yr I'm not banking on Bour having a great season. I'd be happy with a solid .275 and 25 homers. Platoon him
February 23, 201610 yr I don't like platoon since McKeon treated Choi like that. In my opinion, the platoon system could shorten players' career ultimately. But it seems Bour cannot avoid the platoon destiny because he was not a high-ranked prospect or high-paid or highly-regarded player. FO, manager and team don't leave him alone.

February 23, 201610 yr Absolutely he should be platooned. Let him get some at bats against some lefties in Spring training and here and there during the season but what was the point of getting Chris Johnson? Game 3 of the Regular Season is more than likely going to be Gio Gonzalez pitching against us for the Nationals home opener. Bour should not be starting that game.
February 25, 201610 yr I see bour hitting 25 to be honest. Culture of losing says 25 solo shots. Culture of winning says the majority will be with 2 men on.
February 25, 201610 yr Author I love how some people act like Bour hitting 25 bombs wouldn't be a great thing
February 25, 201610 yr I love how some people act like Bour hitting 25 bombs wouldn't be a great thing "He'll have a okay season, maybe 81 home runs but only a .240 batting average"
February 25, 201610 yr I love how some people act like Bour hitting 25 bombs wouldn't be a great thing 10 of his bombs came at home last year and he slugged .498 here as opposed to .462 on the road. So, especially with the fences in, it's pretty fair to predict 25. Which, yes, would be awesome. That said, he will be platooning. Like others have said, Johnson signing makes zero sense if you don't.

As of 2/25/16, the plan is to begin Opening Day with Bour as the everyday 1B.

February 26, 201610 yr So we've given up on that "defense first" philosophy? Losing 20 pounds should help. Perry Hill is a wizard too.
